You are all losers, yall be acting like the judges only judge on music. Sure Panther Creeks music is really hard but there drill is boring, Celina on the other hand had decently hard music and drill. Yall just be glazing every band other than Celina. You bozos need to get a life.

Every band deserves to be praised and appreciated for their hard work and dedication. To put down bands this disrespectfully when all there has been is praise with a tiny bit of criticism is immature. Remember, band is all about working hard and having fun. To be a “band nerd” is to understand that marching band is built on positivity.

Clean and boring will always beat clean and ridiculously hard.  To be honest I almost think that they refuse to let that difficult of a show win because of what it would do to 4A.  The standard would be through the roof and most bands would be left in the dust.

Again just my opinion.  You can and probably will disagree.

Also well said. I believe Panther Creek had such a difficult show and played it really well, not just their music but also their marching, I mean there was one point they were playing and jumping around, never seen a band push it to those limits.

how is this scored?

It’s basically difficulty of the show as a whole.

From UIL:

Visual reinforcement: How well the band uses visuals to support the music

Suitability: How well the visual content matches the performers

Movement: How often and how much the band moves

Flow and pacing: How well the band constructs the show with regard to flow and pacing

To be honest Celina did not deserve that win whatsoever. Yes the kids work hard and have talent. Their brass sound is heavenly and so pure but so is Panther Creek's and their was waaaaay more demanding. It's frustrating that UIL can't move past the rigid shows and always rewarding those types of shows instead of the more fluid shows like Panther Creek. It's whatever but the best 4a band this year was Panther Creek by a long shot. The UIL is just to stubborn...

Since two different sets of judges basically came up with same set of scores I think some ideas of what “the best” is needs to change. I really thought Davenport had pulled out the win over Panther. That show was a visual feast! Much more so than Frisco.

Davenport - tasty euph solo here.  Great opening if not a little top-heavy.  Good woodwind feature.  Little fuzz in the trumpet double tonguing.  Incredible brass choir sound during the flugel solo.  Ah, the PR kick out.  Man there’s some clarinets.  Great woodwind ensemble sound.  Wow, what an ending!  An outstanding performance from 4A State finalist Davenport HS!

Thank you! We had so much prep of letter e, I guess all the practice of the woodwind features payed off!

why are china spring band members saying that they hope celina crashes and burns and saying the whole contest was rigged? they got 5th and any band that placed below them would love to be in their spot

i never thought i would ever hear this come out of china spring, especially sinced they were my favorite show of the season

this is a true low for a state finalist band.

This is because they’ve been judging the same way for years. Clearly certain bands feed into what they knew the judges will score higher to win not to put on the best show 🤷🏼‍♀️

What I see on the scoresheet is a section of the show they judge with a ranking. Is there  more detailed version schools are given that gives them exactly what will get them ranked first? If not then everything is just subject to what ever the judges personally likes to see in shows. What I’m saying is the shows are catering to judges like or have liked in most recent years. I am new to marching band competitions, so I’m trying to make it make sense, but it doesn’t. I came into this expecting it to be like figure skating, you have to hit so many moves and your score goes up and down based on difficulty of moves.

I’m not trying to discredit anyone’s placement, I think I’m more confused more than anything.
