Gino had China Spring 2nd in Brass in prelims

Canyon - ah, Lost It to Trying, my old friend.  Just got done arranging it myself, and this one did not disappoint.  The anglerfish is really cool as usual.  Dancer in the Dark coming back too; nice homage(maybe unintentional?) to the Cadets.  Lost it to Trying coming back again to end it.  Great performance from 4A State finalist Canyon HS!

What a showing from Canyon to get things started!! Love the Son Lux opener, they played it so well, and great job sax quintet. Great sounds form the brass in the Romeo and Juliet dance section, really controlled but present sounds. Super pretty ballad, that Trumpet has such a lively tone, and amazing closer going back to the Son Lux. Guard was fantastic as well, some great story telling to bring the story to life, amazing job Canyon!!

Gatesville - it’s all about the jam with Gatesville.  Drumset laying down beats during a PR reference.  Even Benedictus is a jam.  Then comes the Steven Bryant Bari sax.  The ultimate jam.  A great performance from 4A State finalist Gatesville HS!

Congratulations to Gatesville on your first finals appearance!! Such a lovely show, that ballad is just so so pretty, love the dance break, that Sax solo is killer, and the Let's go Fly a Kite ending really brings the whole show together. Some really cool visual moments as well, great effect with the props there at the end, great job Gatesville!!

West Plains - like the rock throughout.  Ayyy, Blue Shades!  AAYYYYYYY CLARINET JUST DID THE ENTIRE SOLO!!!  Great ensemble sound in the ballad.  Great car sounds.  Hi brass at the end!  Great performance from 4A State finalist West Plains HS!

Gosh I'm so happy West Plains made the night show, because that run was stellar!! One of my favorite shows, and boy do they do it justice. Big, powerful sounds in that opener, great control in the brass. Great work with Blue Shades, that Clarinet soloist is insane, great job sax as well. Super pretty ballad, and great job in the closer pushing through, high brass popped off! For a school in their third year of existence, they are already looking to be a consistent finalist here, fantastic job West Plains!!

Calallen - baller preshow.  However, a little loud compared to the band itself.  Clean woodwinds!  Great ballad moment with the soprano sax who was previously on alto solo.  Great Cadets tribute with the four sideline tenors!  There’s something deeply disturbing about the huge TV with the eyes staring into my soul even after the last note has vanished.  Which is exactly the point.  Great performance from 4A State finalist Calallen HS!

Super strong performance from Calallen!! Preshow is super cool, and great opening hit, maybe a little overexcitement in the tubas, could have just been the mics. Again, great use of Dance of Vengeance, super cool effect with the brass playing getting bigger, and great job WW's on those licks. Amazing job Sprano in the ballad, love the effect of the screen. Drum feature was great, and a super strong closing, wonderful job Calallen!

North Lamar - English horn?  That’s certainly a choice.  Good sound throughout.  Oblivion is nice to hear again but of course not the absolute legendary Hebron arrangement.  Malagueña for the win!

Great performance from North Lamar!! First band to perform this morning and still made finals, something really hard to do, thankfully they got rewarded with a good performance time. Big opening hit, super pretty ballad, and an awesome closer, love the trombone duet and small brass ensemble. Some really cool drill writing, and just a super fun show, amazing job North Lamar!!

Celina - oh crap that tuning note was tasty.  This is undeniably a very talented ensemble.  Woodwinds are cleeeeeean.  So is brass.  Great clarinet choir in the ballad.  Solid stuff in Howl’s.  Rimsky-Korsakov is going.  Okay, there’s the sound you want at the end.  An outstanding performance from 4A State finalist Celina HS!

Wow Celina!! Cute preshow with the Fur Elise, great opening hit. Great work Trumpet and C-nets in the ballad, just such a pretty and mature sound, guard added some nice effect as well. Really strong closer as well, just such a musically amazing group, and they look amazing as well. I do think maybe, just maybe, there's a little bit of wiggle room, but wouldn't be surprised at all if they take the 3-peat, fantastic performance Celina Bobcats!!

Davenport - tasty euph solo here.  Great opening if not a little top-heavy.  Good woodwind feature.  Little fuzz in the trumpet double tonguing.  Incredible brass choir sound during the flugel solo.  Ah, the PR kick out.  Man there’s some clarinets.  Great woodwind ensemble sound.  Wow, what an ending!  An outstanding performance from 4A State finalist Davenport HS!
