As of right now, there is 18 bands that have recieved a 1st Divison. There is still one more school to go. Idk if all bands are advancing based on old UIL 1A rules.

I’ve seen a few schools say they did not advance despite getting a 1st division.

I think a band advances when they get a 1 unless there are more than 3 bands in one region that get a one, in which case only the top 3 (I don't know what process they use for ranking) advance.

From what I've seen, if 4 1A's recieve a 1, 3 go to state. If 5 get a 1, 4 go to state, and so on

I checked UIL's website, here is what ot said

(A) Should three or fewer 1A varsity bands in a region receive a division 1 rating, any conference 1A varsity band that has followed the procedures established by the Region Executive Committee to indicate to the Region Executive Secretary the intent to advance to state and that receives a Division 1 rating at the region contest shall be certified for advancement to the state contest.

(B) Should four or more 1A varsity bands in a region receive a division 1 rating, all 1A varsity bands in the region receiving a division 1 rating shall be ranked using the procedures outlined on the UIL website and the three 1A varsity bands receiving the highest ranking shall be certified for advancement to the state contest. In Addition, one band for each two bands receiving a division 1 rating ranked below third place shall be certified for advancement to the state contest.

Watching 1A State Prelims right now, I really love watching what these bands do with their shows, given their size and often-times financial constraints, compared to the massive 6A and 5A powers.

It reminds me a lot more of what my high school's marching shows were 30 years ago, even though we were a decently-resourced 5A school. Times have certainly changed.

They work hard, just like all the kids at bigger schools, and I love seeing them get to show their stuff in the Alamodome.

After block 1, here is my personal rankings-

Claude
O'Donnell
Leakey
Petersburg
Nueces Canyon
Eden
D'Hanis

Still a good portion of bands still to go including the reigning state champion Menard. Best of luck to the rest of the 1A schools!

I really enjoyed every performance this morning, but now it's time to show my personal rankings of the 15 bands in 1A that advanced to state. Please note that this is a personal rankings and that I could see anyone make finals-

Menard
Irion County
Cross Plains
Knox City
Claude
Hamlin
O'Donnell
Water Valley
Runge

Leakey
Eden
Petersburg
Nueces Canyon
Santa Anna
D'Hanis

The three schools folded are the ones i could see fighting for the final spot in finals.
