Bad judge rule added another band for Area A in 3A, 4A, and 6A this year.

I know. I've been looking at recaps and...oh. my. goodness. The judging was been whack. Nothing one can do about it. Just hold you head up

I just think it is more likely to happen when you have so few bands that get qualified to begin with as well as multiple top performing bands instead of one standout. Regions were brutal this year in Area A for some reason so not many were qualified from the get go.

So, do we hope for a bad judge rule at C to get a 40th band to state and thus 14 to finals?

So the 6 a schedule I looked at last night - only had two slots in it for Area A.  And it was 39 bands (I thought) - so wouldn’t that mean we already have 40?  The original list in this post only said 2 from area A - but there are 3 in reality… so?

The 6A final schedule on the UIL website has 14 spots for finals.

It looks like per the schedule they’re already taking 14 to finals?? But i still wouldn’t be complaining. Also, bad judge rule is if a band gets 3rd or higher from 2 music judges and one of the visual judges, they also qualify for state. This is in place so one or two judges that aren’t in line with the majority don’t hurt a band that, by the majority deserves to go to state.

Not all heros wear capes.

Yeah so reiterating what everyone else said: if a band does not place within the respective quota of state qualifiers, but at least 2 music judges and 1 visual judge certifies them, then that band will advance to state.

I believe this rule applies for State Finals for anointing champion as well.

Hebron will prevent a Vandegrift threepeat, I think.

I honestly wouldn't put it past the Woodlands, Pearland, or Flomo to take the first-place spot this year. Vandy and Hebron are definitely the favorites, though. Flomo only needed one more 1 to beat Hebron in Area J finals, and I could see them making a run for first or second place this year.

Maybe not Pearland, they were inches away from being beat at area. 1 ordinal point away...

I don’t this applies anymore in state finals because state uses the seven judge system.

Oh right that was the old system. Thank you

I'd be pretty skeptical about The Woodlands placing that well too. Amazing band, their track record in BOA speaks for itself, but historically they don't do quite as well at State.
