Hey!   This forum always explodes with thoughts about Area B & D, but nobody says much about the entire rest of the state.  Can't we be inclusive??

Anywho--- what do ya'll think about Area A and Area G bands, since they don't got much representation at the state level?

Have you seen those shows?  What are their strengths?  Some schools from there are very consistent in making the state contest almost every time.

Hopefully Dickinson, very good show they year

Dawson nearly beat Pearland at Area, so it would not surprise me to see them in finals.  Likewise, Pearland should be a safe pick for finals.

I’d love to see Brook in finals, but a more reasonable goal would be them cracking the top 20 since they are the second smallest school represented in the 6A SMBC.  Hopefully, the crowd will enjoy their performance as much as the kids enjoy putting it on.

Well yall. BOA San Antonio was ONE heck of a ride! But its time to prepare for the 6A UIL MARCHING BAND CONTEST!

A lot of bands from. BOA San Antonio Finals are not here, but there are still new bands ready to take this on!!

Let us see how this goes!

San Antonio finalists not attending 6A SMBC:

Cedar Park (5A)

Rouse (5A)

McNeil (DNA Area)

Leander was the first out at San Antonio, but they are 5A so they will not be attending either.

I can’t promise that finalists will repeat exactly, but if they do it leaves three spots. The next three out after Leander at San Antonio (Keller, Cypress Woods and Waxahachie) will be attending state.

I’m expecting it to be different cause of the judging system and only cause I’ve been keeping up with sachse they beat waxahachie but don’t think they will beat them in state but I think it will be close and want to see forney surprise us as well

After watching BOA I agree with these takes. One show that I think will do particularly well with the UIL judges is Vista Ridge. I was genuinely shocked listening to them. As far as flower mound goes, I think they will stay top four, but their strengths obviously lean more towards BOA judging this year. I could see Hebron winning this thing, especially with how musically dominant they are. Sort of on the fence of where to place Vandergrift.

another thing to mention is that bridgeland did not attend boa sa this year and i feel like they have a very very high chance of making finals here

Well everyone, with yesterday being over, were in the shadow of another insanely stacked contest with 6A state! I’m very excited to watch and see if any groups will have some comeback performances after yesterday. Anyways, here’s my take at it:

1. Flower Mound/Hebron

2. Hebron/Flomo

3. Vista Ridge

4. Marcus

5. Vandegrift

6. The Woodlands

7. Coppell

8. Pearland

9. Ronald Reagan

10. Cedar Ridge

11. Bridgeland

12. Round Rock

13. Keller

14. Cy-Woods/Waxahachie/7L

With how things are going, my only personal locks are my top 10, and I think the last 4 have some wiggle room in terms of who gets in. I’ll be watching for all but the 4th block as that’s when I’ve got stuff for school. Tomorrow’s gonna be so great, can’t wait to see some more amazing bands!

Hey so I have a question to any Woodlands High School students/parents. I absolutely love your show first off, and congrats on a strong placement yesterday. With UIL coming up, there’s a UIL specific rule where only 10 people can be mic’d, and if i’m not mistaken, counted twelve soloist in the beginning. Wouldn’t that be breaking rules? Or is there some loophole I didn’t know about.

Gonna slightly change what I originally predicted. Give me

1. Hebron

2) Flower Mound

3) Vandegrift

4) Marcus

5) The Woodlands

6) Vista Ridge

7) Coppell

8. Ronald Reagan

9. Pearland

10) Cedar Ridge

11) Bridgeland

12) Round Rock

13) Keller

14) Waxahachie

First 4 out in no order

Dville (please God let me be wrong)

Seven Lakes

Westlake

Sachse

My predictions post BOA SA:
1. Flower Mound
2. Marcus
3. Vandegrift
4. Hebron (H+V are within a point of each other and interchangeable)
5. Vista Ridge
6. The Woodlands
7. Ronald Reagan
8. Coppell
9. Cedar Ridge
10. Bridgeland
11. Pearland
12. Round Rock
13. Waxahachie
14. Cypress Woods

Honestly, in my opinion I think Hebron is going to drop a few placements here, in regards to the show it is the weakest content theyve had in a while (not about the players, although they seem to get beat in woodwind and brass scores by others here), and in the previous year Marcus and Vandegrift (who in my opinion were overall weaker in 2023 compared to this year) beat them, Flower Mound might be a reach given this is a different contest, but their show and the design is simply incredible, and while content/design isn't exactly weighted as heavily as BOA, I believe they will get the win here.

Also the Keller and CTJ fall off needs to be studied, they can possibly get into state here, but I really doubt CTJ is in the close bubble since they fell over 2 points behind Round Rock in BOA, much less the SMBC where Wax and CyWoods generally get rewarded more.

CTJ had some big director changes, so that’s probably some of the cause. I also wouldn’t say Keller has fallen off, they were 2 out from finals for the SR, and I think will be in finals here. It’s a really good show, def more UIL than BOA focused imo

It's true that Keller was 2 away from finals, but their performance captions were by far their worst ones, with their GE captions higher.  That's a total reversal from their usual profile.  With UIL being more performance-based, I could definitely see them on the outside looking in.

Sachse beat waxahachie and duncanville I wouldn’t rank them that low

Let’s be real, those prelims performance  captions were all over the place. Pearland 18th in music, Ronald Reagan 15th, McNeil 25th. In visual, seven lakes 20th, Round Rock 22nd. And that’s just the bands that made finals

Excited to watch tomorrow, heres what I am going with:

1. Hebron HS

2. Vandegrift HS

3. Vista Ridge HS

4. Flower Mound HS

5. The Woodlands HS

6. Marcus HS

7. Ronald Reagan HS

8. Pearland HS

9. Coppell HS

10. Cedar Ridge HS

11. Bridgeland HS

12. Round Rock HS

13. Dripping Springs HS

14. Keller HS

I'm thinking similar to you-- Hebron and Vandegrift are going to score very highly using UIL criteria.  I've got FloMo and VR swapped but it could certainly turn out as you predict,  and everything beyond that from 4-10 is a jumble that could go just about any direction.

This competition will be fierce, and fun to watch!
