So let me get this straight, a band (Cypress Lakes) gets disqualified from Area (already chosen to go to area) because of an ineligible marcher, which was an oversight by UIL! And because of this oversight, now 24, not 25 bands go to Area. Why does that band being disqualified from attending Area by UIL have an impact on how many bands make it to state??? The top 5 were supposed to go to state! So again, let me get this straight. A band gets disqualified BY UIL AFTER the fact they made it to Area (so basically UIL didn’t do their due diligence) and now a very deserving marching band can’t go to state??? Someone please explain this to me!!!

Yeah, this is a quite frustrating situation. This is similar to the frustration some face with bands that advance to area and then do not attend the competition, which lowers the overall amount of spots in some cases. In both cases it’s frustrating. I see how this comes from a general rule of “representing the area”, but some regions and areas can be kinda of imbalanced so that doesn’t fully agree with that conclusion.

Bands who advance to area but choose not to attend state do not lower the number of slots an area will be qualified to send. If 25 bands gets 1s at region but only 23 decide to go forward, the area still advances 5 bands to state.

If this is true then this is a new rule, and thanks for the clarification. When I was in school this caused state spots to be lowered.

Found the rule, wording makes it seem as if this is still true unless this is misinterpreted. 1 band, for each 5 bands that actually compete seems to be the rule.

My daughter is in the band that didn’t get to go. Those kids worked so hard and made history this year. They were DEVASTATED. Such a frustrating and unfair situation.
