RainKill Posted October 4, 2006 Posted October 4, 2006 Wow dont you just hate it when you get new sticks and when you play with them sometimes they bend? well we have some old ones really and they are bent like somewhat bad, isnt that funny? Quote
G'townPIT Posted October 5, 2006 Posted October 5, 2006 lol they're called rattan shafts. They are usually on vibe or xylo mallets. And they are suppposed to be able to flex or bend for added velocity. Quote
PitStar Posted October 16, 2006 Posted October 16, 2006 I use these small black mallets, they bend when I use them for warm ups, like anything involving fast tempos, but otherwise they have a really nice song. Pro mark one of those models. Quote
shmily1130 Posted November 5, 2006 Posted November 5, 2006 Haha, my mallets bend, too. It's pretty funny after a show, when they are all bent and whatnot. (Vic Firth, I think it's M187, or something...?) Yeah, our band director bought all Vic Firth mallets for show mallets this year.... Kinda interesting, I suppose. What do you guys use/which brand do you like the best? Quote
Drummer Chick Posted November 5, 2006 Posted November 5, 2006 I'm the timpanist, so my mallets don't bend But to practice for all-region auditions, I borrowed my friend's vibraphone mallets one day, it really messed with my mind that the mallets bend, mostly just because I haven't played anything but timpani in a couple of months. I really like the flexibility though, once I got used to it, it just has a cool feel. Quote
iScreenname Posted November 16, 2006 Posted November 16, 2006 at leander we ditched those and went with m-82s from vic firth. They are the same mallets used by our marimbas, but softer. They work alot better because it's hard as heck to break them and 1 pair has lasted our keyboards all year, especially our vibes who would break mallets like crazy. Quote
EODrillDesigner98 Posted November 20, 2006 Posted November 20, 2006 As a Mallet Percussionist, the only mallets I used are either VFirth or Encore Mallets. They are the best mallets. Quote
percussioninstructor Posted November 21, 2006 Posted November 21, 2006 Silverfox key mallets have worked the best for me. They can stand up to the abuse of young percussionists. Quote
fourmalleteer Posted November 21, 2006 Posted November 21, 2006 I've never heard of that company...do they have a website? Quote
percussioninstructor Posted November 24, 2006 Posted November 24, 2006 Yep: www.silverfoxpercussion.com They dont have a wide variety of key mallets, just soft-thru-hard for marimba and vibe...but the hard marimbas work as a soft xylo..on the field anyway.. Quote
SHSfreshmanSNARE07 Posted November 25, 2006 Posted November 25, 2006 from all of this talk of silver fox, ill go check their site. For chopping out on pad, is there something in the silver fox selection close to a pair of delucias? Quote
percussioninstructor Posted November 30, 2006 Posted November 30, 2006 Mmmm...Delucias...those are those heavy sta-pac sticks huh...maybe a SF-4S...they're pretty bead heavy(good chop workout). Also, if you ARE looking for a good burn-out...see if you can find a "moon gel" pad(dont know if they make 'em anymore). They have like no rebound what so ever...you will feel it hardcore in no time at all...lol Quote
drummerkid418 Posted December 22, 2006 Posted December 22, 2006 Innovative Percussion is hands down the best choice for mallets. Quote
