Popular Post packwick Posted December 9, 2024 Popular Post Posted December 9, 2024 curious about dripping springs' chances in A class here. they're not strangers to major wgi success. didn't love their marching show this past season, but the guard def stood out in a good way. Pearland won't be out of place in open. not sure about finals chances. American fork another that really impressed me on the field. had forgotten they had medaled in open, so was surprised by them looking so ~*world class*~ LOL. maybe a finalist right away, iiif the show's right. not always great overlap b/w field and indoor quality. Centerville, don't know if the skills are there to achieve world class finals yet, but i love their weird, outside the box approach to design, so looking forward to them no matter what. El dorado and kiski again ones to watch. really have developed that top-to-bottom strength we see from the well-oiled machines near the top. El dorado nearly matched Carmel last yr in finals. seems ripe for a medal opp, but also seems like a strong possibility that Avon, arcadia, and woodlands all return to the podium. actually arcadia wasn't all that impressive on the marching field this year, but neither were they last year, and they still pulled it together for WGI, sooo... *shoulder shrug* great design + a few months of rehearsal go a long way!! curious to see where Carmel ends up, bit of a "scare" for them last season at wgi after prelims. evidence the high school scene is really getting very competitive. def liked the SWs more than the IWs last season!! seriously missing Tarpon and Origins, but nothing we can do about that. Popular Post packwick Posted December 9, 2024 Popular Post Posted December 9, 2024 also find myself wishing yet again that winter guard international had a bit more... ahem... international representation. does Aimachi even exist anymore?!!! still better than DCI in that regard, but that's a loooow bar to clear. Expand dripping springs had major success in their winter season last year with them winning every contest they went to minus state where they got the bronze medal so I could see them potentially being up for a medal at wig worlds if not definitely a finalist spot if they keep their trajectory from last year. pearlands guard really stood out to me in the fall with them being very clean with how many members they had and I honestly see them in open class finals if they can push their vocab and design scores higher which i'm sure they can do i really want centerville in finals but i think your right, there skills might not meet the level that you need for world class but im hoping that we will see them in finals. they will have to beat out schools like center grove, flanagan, and stoneman douglas. for SW podium i can predict to see avon and twhs up there but El dorado will have to go head-to-head with arcadia for that last spot on the podium. i wasn't that impressed by carmels guard in the fall but it might be cause i didn't like their show that much but im hoping to see them place higher then they did last season. LeanderMomma Posted December 10, 2024 Author Posted December 10, 2024 Well, sadly, there will be NO Avon World Guard competing this season. They will have their other level guards competing, but a lot of the World members have quit the team. Official word is coming out later today. Messina, philomena, Tubalord11 and 4 others 1 1 5 Quote
philomena Posted December 10, 2024 Posted December 10, 2024 Wow! Maybe Avon heard that 2025 is Carmel's turn. Crazy the defending champions may not show. Their performance was special last year. Is this confirmed by Avon? Tarpon not going either. Quote

Expand le gasp!! protesting against something? administration? staff? didn't like the way they were being treated? they rehearse like 12-17 hours a week during the guard season, so that would make any poor treatment extra miserable. there simply won't be the same degree of competition w/o them at Dayton. will feel incomplete. on the flip side, this provides a bigger opening for a first-time champion w/ either arcadia or woodlands winning (if it's not just Carmel again). could see some others up there, too. Tubalord11 Posted December 11, 2024 Posted December 11, 2024 Really sucks for Avon, was really looking forward to what they were gonna do after last year. Hope all the members are okay and nothing bad is going on over there. On the bright side, could see a new face in 1st! Has The Woodlands ever won at Dayton? Would love for them to take the gold, could definitely see it happening with the right show Rubisco 1 Quote

Can you imagine telling all the members, including their Seniors "sorry, we're going in a different direction, so no winter guard season for you." That would be horrendous! Maybe they could be more forthcoming. Great performance last year. Inquiring minds are inquisitive. More to this probably. Quote

Expand With Avon currently withdrawn from SW, I think there's a very strong possibility that we see two Southern California guards on the podium in April. Both Arcadia and El Dorado work with Rosie, and it really shows at the level of the individual choreography. Very witty, creative writing -- of the sort we saw (and still continue to see, to an extent) from Carmel. Heck, that part in El Dorado's show last season where they dragged the performer across the floor, as the other performers hop-tossed over them, was like an inverted version of that moment in Carmel's Gunslinger show, when they tossed over that girl they carried across the floor. Super cool. Actually, I find it quite remarkable that Rosie is only consulting and not directing, but we've still seen major improvements in both of those California programs pretty quickly.
