So I know that TMEA Honor Band auditions are coming up this year for the odd conferences if i’m correct. Anyone have any predictions on who might win this year and be preforming in San Antonio in 2026? I know they don’t choose till like July, but I thought it could be a nice discussion while it’s not marching season. Please post any updates you can find here.

I know the Leander schools have some pretty good concert programs as well as LT, Wakeland, and Roma. I think those bands listed above have some of the better piece selections then the other honor band contenders.

After looking at some of the selections, I'd agree that the Leander schools are all top contenders, especially Rouse with Pictures at an Exhibition. Wakeland is definitely up there, and I'm curious how they'll do with this being their first submission with their new director. LT with Elsa's Procession is certainly a feat, and I wouldn't be surprised if they took the top spot. Also, I saw Argyle with Fountains of Rome, so I wouldn't rule them out, considering they won 4A Honor Band not too long ago. Im excited to see how all of this will play out!

Personally, I'm not a huge fan of Wakelands program. Sounds very much woodwinds focused and I dont think it shows off their very good brass enough. I also think Aledo has a cool program too with Trittico and October (Shosti).

Over 30% of the entire state's 5A Honor Band entries come from Area B. 24 of 79 total. 👀

I'm curious if the number of state advancers continues to increase beyond the max of 4 listed in the rules (for 13-16 bands). It seems like Area B would need a couple extra spots to not be shortchanged.

Ah, okay, well, it would be the cap of 4 per region that would need to be adjusted, I suppose. Based on the current rules, it's not possible to have more than 16 at the area level. Probably, it would be hard to listen to more than 16 in one day, if the recordings are half-an-hour long. Maybe just more of an overall numbers balancing issue between the areas.

I don't know too much about Honor Bands but I was thinking that you cannot go back to back as Honor Band right? For example if you won it last time, you can win it the next time up?

Expand

If you win you’re ineligible to compete the next time so no back to back
