rdzsaxplaya Posted October 22, 2006 Posted October 22, 2006 Ok...so since we didnt make it to area....marching season is kinda over so were getting ready for concert season and all the solo & ensemble stuff, I was wondering if any of you saxaphonist out there played a piece called Sax Lix? A few buddies and I are planning to do that piece, but i was wondering if anybody out there has a recording??? Much Thanks in Advance Quote

Try looking at the Dubois Quator.... I think that's what it's called. It's been years since I've played it. I love that quartet. Quote

If you're looking for a fun, hard piece of music, theres always the quartet arrangement of Toccata and Fugue that Pittel's quartet played. Quote

itsstephenyo Posted October 25, 2006 Posted October 25, 2006 I've played the Glazonouv before, though I was just diddling around. It's a good piece, but it loses my interest about halfway through. I LOVE the opening section, though. So beautiful. You should look into the Dubois Concerto or Concertino da Camera by Ibert. Those are two of my favorite saxophone solos that I've played. Quote

itsstephenyo Posted October 26, 2006 Posted October 26, 2006 Another of my favorite, if not THE favorite, is Prelude, Cadence, et Finale by Desenclos. It's so beautiful all the way through the prelude and cadenza and then the finale just hits you hard in the face. It's incredibly difficult but, wow, is it some fun to play. Hit me up for some recordings of just about any of the more known sax literature. I've also got a recording of Perpetual Motion by Paganini transcribed to saxophone. Crazy thing about that piece is, it's continual 16th's for 4 minutes at 190, without any breath marks. You'll go crazy when you hear the recording. Quote
