Xenon Posted October 22, 2006 Posted October 22, 2006 We are almost through with UIL Region competitions and that means that we are starting to get an idea of how many bands will eventually advance to State. One band for every Five at an Area competition advance to State. Apparently Area G (The Rio Grande Valley for the most part) will be advancing an enormous 7 bands to State this year. The following is a list of Regions by Area and how many bands advanced from that Region. I will update this as results become available. Area A - 3 Advance Region 1 - 2 Region 2 - 3 Region 6 - 4 Region 16 - 3 Region 22 - 6 Area B - 5 Advance (Only 1 band short of advancing 6) Region 5 - 10 Region 7 - 4 Region 24 - 10 Region 25 - 5 Area C - 4 Advance Region 3 - 14 Region 4 - 0 Region 20 - 5 Region 21 - 3 Area D - 5 Advance Region 8 - 6 Region 12 - 10 Region 18 - 5 Region 26 - 7 Area E - (Probably 4, maybe only 3) Region 13 - 7 Region 23 - (Contest on 10/24/2006) Region 27 - 6 Area F - (Could be 4 or 5) Region 9 - (Contest on 10/24/2006) Region 10 - 3 Region 17 - 6 Region 19 - 8 Area G - 7 Advance region 11 - 9 region 14 - 9 region 15 - 9 region 28 - 8 Quote
itsstephenyo Posted October 22, 2006 Posted October 22, 2006 I have 2 questions. 1. The Regions with no number of area participants. Does that mean they didn't advance any bands or does it mean we don't have the figures for it yet? 2. In Area B, there are at least 25 bands at Area. Doesn't that mean 5 bands advance? Quote

I believe there will actually be 6 advancing from Area B, but I don't have confirmation on Region 7 yet. Region 7 only advanced 4 bands instead of the expected 5. This puts 29 bands at Area B which means thaey will fall 1 band short of being able to advance 6 bands. Edited October 22, 2006 by Xenon Quote
itsstephenyo Posted October 22, 2006 Posted October 22, 2006 Ah, I see. Thanks for the clearing up, Xenon. You wouldn't by chance have a list of bands advancing to each Area, would you? I know that's quite a task. Quote
Warfact Posted October 22, 2006 Posted October 22, 2006 haha that kinda sucks that we were 1 band short from advancing 6 bands. this happened 2 years ago also, we were 1 band short from advancing 5 bands! oh well i guess this just happens! Quote
jr520c Posted October 22, 2006 Posted October 22, 2006 I'm still shocked that Area G will be advancing 7 to state this year, wow. Did anyone attend the region 15 contest? If so, were there any standout bands? I saw about 3 that should do very well at the Area G contest from region 28. Quote
trumpetman1288 Posted October 22, 2006 Posted October 22, 2006 7 bands advancing to state...JEEEEEZ....that's all I can say. It makes the making finals part of it harder, but if you make finals, all but three are guaranteed a trip to state. Yep... I can give you region 15 and 28, as for the other two (which is the Laredo area, Victoria, and part of San Antonio), I have no clue about who advanced and who didn't. Region 15: Edinburg Rio Grande City Sharyland McAllen Memorial Economedes* McAllen PSJA North La Joya Edinburg North** Region 28: Los Fresnos Brownsville Lopez Brownsville Hanna San Benito Harlingen Harlingen South Brownsville Rivera Donna *Economedes- Let's all give this band a big time hand. For the first time in their school's history (open since 1999 I believe, and if not, 2000), they earned a first division. They have been working hard for the longest time, and they finally earned one. BIG congrats to them. **Edinburg North- I was deathly worried about this band at the beginning of the season. They sounded HORRID and their marching had gone out the window after their old director, Wilberto Perez, left and became the Edinburg CISD fine arts coordinator. Glad to see that they rebounded and advanced. Quote
Trumpet Master Posted October 22, 2006 Posted October 22, 2006 And so it begins, the final leg of our journey! 7 bands, wow. This is going to be awesome! Quote
jr520c Posted October 22, 2006 Posted October 22, 2006 Congrats to Economedes for earning their first division 1. Area G will be interesting. Yup. Quote

From what I heard backfield (I was sitting on the back side), a lot of bands seem to be playing well, but marching and drill seem greatly lacking. I am not going to include my school because I really can't say how we did in comparison to everyone else, but I can let you know about what I saw/heard. Musically speaking, stand outs would be La Joya, McAllen, and PSJA North. Visually speaking, I would say La Joya and McAllen. I have heard Rio Grande City a few times this year, and they are extremely strong musically...I feel confident enough to say that they are probably going to be one of, and if not, the most powerful band at Area as far as music goes. If their marching ever catches up though, they will be extraordinary. Edinburg has been doing great this year as well as far as music is concerned. What I have heard about both RGC and Edinburg is that they "park and play" a lot. Not sure if that will hurt them or not at area, but we will see Saturday. So, recap... Musical standouts- McAllen, La Joya, PSJA North, Edinburg, Rio Grande City Visual standouts- McAllen, La Joya Quote
Fortisimo Posted October 22, 2006 Posted October 22, 2006 Argh, if we get 6th at area I'm gonna be infuriated. I'm tired of being one out of State. Ah well, see you guys in area B on Saturday I guess. Quote
VRHSRangerTBone Posted October 22, 2006 Posted October 22, 2006 AREA D Region 8: Temple Harker Heights Ellison A&M Consolidated Bryan Belton Region 12: Lee Judson Smithson Valley East Central MacArthur Seguin Madison Roosevelt Churchill Reagan Region 18: Bowie Akins Anderson Westlake Pflugerville Region 26: Stony Point McNeil Georgetown Leander Round Rock Cedar Park Westwood Quote
MartinHorn Posted October 22, 2006 Posted October 22, 2006 Arrghh it sucks so much. Oh well, see you at Area. Quote
t3hZm4n Posted October 22, 2006 Posted October 22, 2006 Argh, 2 short of advancing 6 bands... We're gonna have to do a heck of a lot of work to have any hope of getting into the top 5 Quote
pianomusicman89 Posted October 22, 2006 Posted October 22, 2006 anyone have ideas about the bands that might go on to state from each area??? is it me, or does it seem that the areas are more competitive this year than previous? Quote
bumbythebeach Posted October 22, 2006 Posted October 22, 2006 way to go region 7. blows. P.S. - anyone see region 24 last night? Quote
Clarinet_Lover41 Posted October 22, 2006 Posted October 22, 2006 Who do you think will be the advancing bands in area b, be honest! Quote
trumpetman1288 Posted October 22, 2006 Posted October 22, 2006 Let's put it this way. Any band that comes out of Area B as a state qualifier has topped a nearly insurmountable (I hope I spelled that right ) mountain. And yes, I agree...Area seems more competitive this year than two years ago. Good thing too...it will make state more interesting Quote
itsstephenyo Posted October 22, 2006 Posted October 22, 2006 Area B has a long list of contenders. LD Bell, Richland, Haltom, Hebron, Martin, Marcus, Newman Smith, Plano East, Lewisville, among many others that I can't remember off the top of my head. It's going to be a bloodbath. I love it. I'm definitely going to be at the finals that night. Quote
DrummerDrummer Posted October 22, 2006 Posted October 22, 2006 Area E will be very interesting..... Region 13 Clements Stephen F. Austin Dulles Hightower Elkins Bush Kempner Region 27 Langham Creek Cypress Creek Cypress Springs Cypress Falls Jersey Village Cy-Fair Region 23 - There are 10 5A's in this region. For 4 bands to go, 7 of these bands need to make a one. I do not think that will happen. So.....These bands will be fighting for 3 spots. Quote
itsstephenyo Posted October 22, 2006 Posted October 22, 2006 Wow. That sucks that only 3 might advance. Let's hope Region 23 gets seven 1's. It'd be a shame to see only three of those very fine bands get to state. Quote
Serardian Posted October 22, 2006 Posted October 22, 2006 This is gonna be so close. There's going to be lots of very (justifiably) disappointed bands. How about we just have 2 State competitions? Quote
trumpetman1288 Posted October 22, 2006 Posted October 22, 2006 Yes....we can do it just like they do it for football...div 1 and div 2 state playoffs, but in this case, for state marching contest. Man, how would THAT work out? Quote
Serardian Posted October 22, 2006 Posted October 22, 2006 We can have it in my backyard. There's space. Quote
