does anyone know the contest results for region 23, or at least how many bands are going to area

Well I just got back from the region competition and so far this is what I know:

Cinco Ranch, Elsik, and (Katy) Taylor received 1s (that is what they announced at Rhodes Stadium while we were there)

Our BD told us that 6 bands from region 23 made 1s (I don't know this for sure, but that is what he told us)

Therefore, a grand total of 19 bands will be at the Area E competition

Meaning only 3 will advance to state

One band short of sending 4! Ahh!

Langham Creek, Cy Falls, Clements, SFA, how can you honestly pick only 3?

I'm seriously having an emotional breakdown here. And I don't even go to any of these schools. :(

You're absolutely right. Look what an area change can do for the quality of bands in an Area. Now that there is a greater depth in the talent of Texas Bands, the area realignment taking place this year is sure to stir up some controversy.

The tale was that once L.D. Bell didn't advance to state because at area they recieved 1,1,1,1,25.

Bell wasn't really good until 1998 (really 1999) and I think they went to State that year (I'm pretty sure that we walked by them on our way to the entrance ramp) but didn't make Finals. So, I don't think it could have been that year and the Rank Scoring system wasn't implemented until 1997, so it couldn't have been before that.

DFife would probably know.

Bell did not advance to UIL State Finals in 1998, mainly because of a spread in music scores. One judge had them in 1st, and another judge had them in 21st. The 21st place rank score kept them out of finals.

The rule you are talking about was put in place after the 1998 UIL State Marching Contest. I have heard that it was implemented as a result of what happened to Bell in prelims, but I cannot confirm that as a fact.

So why don't they add another judge, then drop the highest and lowest scores. So you have

1,1,1,1,1,25

which, take out a one and the 25, and you're left with a good score from four other judges. Then nobody can complain that one judges screwed them over.

Alas, it is a debate for the ages.
