Well, after seeing the scores from finals, I don't think the placements were a result of inconsistency. I think it was a result of inexperienced judges. I may be wrong on this one, but I was told that only one judge from that panel is a current band director. I don't think our (Sharyland's) score was biased nor was it intentially done that way, we just came out on the short end of the stick. EVERY SINGLE BAND on at finals came up with crazy score spreads.

And thank you all for your support. This has been a difficult time for us especially since it was our expectation to make state, and our morale was shattered after our finals finish. Everyone from our band appreciates your support and despite our heartbreak, we still wish you all the best of luck at state. Saturday was not our night to shine, but yours instead. Represent our area well!

True. One of the prelims judges put us in 27th while the others settled around 7th. it was disconcerting, but it may just be a marginal difference in opinion.

Hanna knows how it feels to not go to state, believe me...i was a sophomore and it was horrible. i hope you all the best; from what i heard, Sharyland had NOTHING to be ashamed about. WOOP!

whats up with everyone dissing harlingens dance? i havent heard anything about harlingen souths dance, why is that?

I don't think it was the fact that Harlingen danced, but it was more so the fact that Harlingen just so happened to dance A LOT. It wasn't bad or anything, it just had a lot of viewers curious as to how much of the show was actually playing and how much was actually dancing.

Despite this, I do feel that people that are quick to blame dancing as a reason why a band did/didn't advance is a little ridiculous.

well if it gets us somewhere why not huh? i suppose your entitled to your opinion. im sure the judges wont be that inconsistant at state. so we will see what happens there. hopefully everyone will stop complaining. we got second, and i could care less. i dont see why everyone just cant accept what happened to them. maybe they just had a bad day. we did.

Why are you so angry? lol. No one was dissing any certain band. The results at state still aren't going to change individual opinions. Good luck to ALL of the Area G bands attending state.

its more of a contest to see if bell will win or churchill or reagan...which i`m hoping L.D. Bell will:D

nobody actually expects bands like us or harlingen to win [no offense to anybody]...seriously, we know who will most likely win.

OK so i know I may be a bit late with posting this up since Area was about 4 days ago. I do however think that a lot of the comments left before mine are pointless. all the complaing and whinning is getting annoying

I am part of the Hanna Band and reading some of the comments are quiet dissapointing. We were blessed with another opportunity and we gave it our best out there. Our show wasnt completly perfect and flawless but it was the best we've done so far, We played our hearts out and we were able to entertain the crowd. We didnt only get standting ovations from the Hanna ppl , but from the whole stadium, which makes me think they LOVED our show.[and we didnt have to shake our hips for it]Our drill is actually pretty challenging though not all of u may agree .In myopinion we got the place we deserved .I was pleased to see other bands performed and lots of the shows were incredible, our show just happend to be different from all of theirs.Good luck to all of the Area G bands advancing to state. this should be a great experience. :D

Let's please keep all unnecessary comments down to a minimum. I know this a forum where people are entitled to their opinion, but PLEASE keep in mind that even though you are still your own person, you are still representing your school. No one is attacking any particular school's show, everything that has been mentioned has been opinions about them. Even though I don't agree with the direction that Harlingen has taken recently with their shows (this is just a personal opinion..the performances aren't bad in the least bit, it is just the style that Harlingen has taken), I still have held the school's marching program and students in high esteem because they have earned it over the years, but I find that good image slowly diminishing with some of the comments I have read.

Students from Hanna...you guys really have nothing to worry about. I am reading some of the comments you all are leaving and while they aren't attacking anyone or anything at all, they seem to be made as if people are attacking you all. You all did nothing wrong and you all earned your spot for state, no one has said otherwise. You all were one of the few shows of the night to earn a standing ovation and that is something to feel good about.

If this doesn't turn in to a civil topic, I will close it. Please keep attacks on other bands off this board. This is not a place bash other bands.

You have been warned.

Now back to your regularly scheduled Area G contest discussion... minus the bashing!

I remember seeing a whole bunch of directors at pigskin, unless those were just techs or something. If they were all directors, then I would guess about 7-8  Their show was good. A lot of things still need to be cleaned though, but I think they can pull it off. They should do alright at state. I hate waiting for Nov. 7!!!!! AHH!!!!! HURRY UP NOVEMBER 7!!!! Does anyone else feel like this? I'm not even performing in a band, I wonder how the band students feel

First of all, I just want to thank everybody who supported the Sharyland Band. I really helped and meant a lot to me.

I'm coping with and pretty much putting it past me what happened at Area G. I've realized that we only need our satisfaction and nobody elses. We had a pretty good season this year.

Sharyland Band Accomplishments

1st place at USSBA (Night Show)

11th place at BOA Houston (1-10th advanced to finals)

1st division at Pigskin

3rd place at Area G Prelims

8th place at Area G Finals

Even if we didn't make it to state, I am very proud to be in my band. Our performance at Area G Finals is now on youtube. Check it out! ^_^ :

Tell me what you guys think :)

& Good luck to all the bands advancing to State.

Yeah, that's great man. You all did have a great season. 11th @ BOA Houston, that rocks! I'm sure you all will break top 10 next year (if you go). As for area, you all had a great run. I don't want to start the whole "this band should have made it" debate, but I was there to watch you all perform, and it was just great. Thanks for an awesome performance!

Ooooo, very mature and well-executed show, in my opinion. I don't profess to be a judge, but the only things I saw were some straight line rotations that were way off.

Other than that, I don't know. I've only seen Hanna and Harlingen South but I don't see how you made 8th.
