zman5305 Posted October 29, 2006 Posted October 29, 2006 yeah tell me about it pearland's scores were all over the place.... one judge has us 4th in music then the other judge had us 9th which kept us from making state....little disappointing Quote
get0verit Posted October 29, 2006 Posted October 29, 2006 Woodlands kids mad about Area? Welcome to UIL Area competitions. Quote
zman5305 Posted October 29, 2006 Posted October 29, 2006 but yeah really... get over it woodlands got beat by spring and brazoswood wooo at least u made it to state... yall shouldn't be complaining at all Quote

dciguy085 Posted October 29, 2006 Posted October 29, 2006 I'll be honest. I thought the judging was pretty much accurate... Spring was pretty good, just barely better than Brazoswood... Brazoswood got 2 1st place votes, so they were right up there... I was pretty dissappointed in the Woodlands... The show is a little weak for such a great band, and the thing that hurt them the most was timing problems... They were all over the place in parts of the show... Ya, they're consistently a great band, but look, you got beat. No use in whining about it. If it's such a big deal, just do better and don't blame the judges. Also everyone is complaining about Pearland. I honestly didn't have them in either... The whole "We beat Brazoswood at Galena Park" argument doesn't work either, since if you look at the galena park recaps, one judge had Brazoswood as a 90 out of 200 for drill design. Are you kidding me? I bet he mean't 190 and forgot the 1. Even then, Brazoswood would have won that contest with even 30 or 40 points more in that caption... That plus the judges were nobodys... Look at BOA, that was the first legitimate read on all these bands, and those results look pretty much like what happened last night... End of story... Quote
radioactive Posted October 29, 2006 Posted October 29, 2006 I'm posting this mostly to clarify for the people who seem to believe that The Woodlands is 'whining' or anything about coming in 3rd at area; we aren't. A few people I've talked to are disappointed about coming in 3rd place, as we thought we had done fairly well. We are not 'angry' about judging or anything of the sort, just slightly disappointed. We are excited about going to state, and hope to have better runs there. Quote
ClarinetFever747 Posted October 29, 2006 Posted October 29, 2006 i think area f needed a better announcer she was so unenthusiastic and monotone and sounded like she didnt want to spend her saturday at the contest when you hear an unethusiastic announcer it doesnt give you much enthusiasm before you perform Quote
MmCheezItsYay Posted October 30, 2006 Posted October 30, 2006 omg... yes... every time i heard her voice i kept thinking even i could do a way better job announcing... and i could barely understand what she was even saying... Quote
MmCheezItsYay Posted October 30, 2006 Posted October 30, 2006 when they announced the state bands, didn't they switch announcers to a guy? Quote

Hah, exactly. Remember when they took forever to announce the results in the finals? I thought she had like died or something. Quote

But she did make me laugh at GPISD contest when she completely mispronounced up our DMs' names Quote
5to5 Posted October 30, 2006 Posted October 30, 2006 I didn't find it so funny when she got out show's name wrong at both prelims AND finals. Quote
mitchellbc Posted October 30, 2006 Posted October 30, 2006 what is wrong w/ ppl's contest ediquette? i had like 5 ppl come up to me after area finals and ask me how it felt to know that our best wasn't good enough. how rude is that? and they were all from the same band. and then some lady in the stands by my mom had something to say about everyone. why do ppl have to be so rude at contest? it's not everyone... but it shouldn't be anyone. GPISD needs to hire someone like the BOA guy for their announcer - he sounds cool...lol She mispronounced the name of our show THREE times!! how hard is it to say: Hypar Effect - she was saying Hyper Effect...lol Quote
ClarinetGlissandoInBlue Posted October 30, 2006 Posted October 30, 2006 iplayband07 said: we just know how inconsistent UIL judging is. agreed. on another note: Spring's show was pretty cool, they didnt have all the distractions that everyone else had (woodlands - trees and yardline markers i think; pearland - random tower, narrator; one of the klein bands - flowers?) i'm not knocking any of those bands, but just saying that these distractions can mask some bad marching. Spring was cool Quote
n3rdu5 Posted October 30, 2006 Posted October 30, 2006 Thanks a lot! I think that is a reason why I really like our show so much this year, because we've mostly concentrated on our music. I love our music this year, because all our pieces are so different from each other but they still have a connection, you know? Out of all of them though, I love jam section the best, haha. Not that I'm knocking down any bands that do use props and such - because I love the Woodlands' show, and Klein really impressed me (re: they were the flower band). [i didn't get to see Pearland, unfortunately. ] I just really like the direction our directors took this year. Quote

n3rdu5 Posted October 30, 2006 Posted October 30, 2006 hahha, I'm guessing you are talking about us! yeah we have a clarinet solo that builds up into a huge jam section with the whole band, and ends with a high note held by the clarinet as the band runs wild and then a big note at the end. haha. I love that. Quote
