Claritone
So recently I've noticed that when I play loud, I sometimes buzz two notes at once. It's not something that happens often, usually I sound fine, but its really annoying when my lips randomly start fapping and I "double buzz." Anyone else had this happen? Skippy
Everyone has this happen. I can't really put it in words how to not do it. Try to use a more focused airstream, and maybe don't let your lips seperate as much when trying to play. Don't just try and play loud by pushing as much air as possible, you have to control it as well. The only way to really figure out how to stop it is trial and error. Basically... Practice! mrlowbrass
Double buzz is from your lips being too hard or too far apart. When you play loud, the tendency is for your body to get tense and that will obviously cause your embouchure to get too hard. Also, when you are moving a lot of air, your lips will have the tendency to blow apart, causing two different buzzes from each of your lips, hence the term "double buzz." When you play loud, keep your lips relaxed and close together. It'll solve all of your problems with the Double Buzz.
Dontforgettobreathe
I only get this on the notes Gflat - A flat (Euphonium bass clef) its kind of a natural habit that you have to break.
gavinrh
This has kinda become a problem for me that I want to fix pretty quickly - Any "quick fix" ideas?
Claritone
I don't really have any advice. It finally went away for me but the only thing that really changed was that I played more. It just took time.
Tx_state_euph_08
The F# Gb is my most favorite note on euphonium. I personally overcame double buzzing through building lip endurance. I usually double buzz whenever my chops are out so....more stamina = less double buzz....yay! lip slurs
takigan
Weird.....I read the topic and thought this was going to be thread on learning how to double buzz....but I guess it's not such a useful technique afterall. Now multiphonics on the other hand ....
schnacado
What helped me was learning how to double buzz on purpose so I knew what not to do with my lips.
Nancy08
I'm not sure if this is possible but my director told me I was double buzzing on my bassoon. How do you do that on a reed instrument?! I mean, I can play two or three notes at once by doing some overtone stuff but double buzzing? Any ideas?
