Only 3 bands out of the many excellent ones attending will move on from area to state this year Quote
Keyboard_Countessa Posted October 27, 2006 Posted October 27, 2006 I wish I knew more about these bands so that I could make valid predictions, but I hope that Cy-Creek at least makes it to finals, for obvious reasons (points at signature). Quote
Dontforgettobreathe Posted October 28, 2006 Posted October 28, 2006 How many bands make finals? 7? Quote
jr520c Posted October 28, 2006 Posted October 28, 2006 only 7. I hate the fact that only 3 will advance Quote
zman5305 Posted October 28, 2006 Posted October 28, 2006 i would say the top three advancing are( in placement order) 1st-Langham Creek 2nd-Austin 3rd-Clements Quote
DrummerDrummer Posted October 28, 2006 Posted October 28, 2006 Finalists for Area E are..... Cypress Falls Cy-Fair Langham Creek Stephen F. Austin Cypress Springs Jersey Village Clements Quote
DrummerDrummer Posted October 29, 2006 Posted October 29, 2006 Don't even start with that junk Ms. Bassonist. That was grabage right ther b/c I had you guys pegged at 3rd place, honestly, I thought you had a shot to go to state. I am sorry you did not qualify for finals. Don't get too down, because it was fantastic. 3 bands going to state..... Langham Creek Clements Stephen F. Austin Quote
DrummerDrummer Posted October 29, 2006 Posted October 29, 2006 FYI, you came in 9th. And once again, it was amazing, better than Springs, Fair, JV and maybe even Falls Quote
Dontforgettobreathe Posted October 29, 2006 Posted October 29, 2006 Order after the Top 3 4th place - Cypress Falls 5th place - Jersey Village 6th place - Cypress Springs 7th place - Cypress Fair how does everyone feel after it's all over? Quote
Dontforgettobreathe Posted October 29, 2006 Posted October 29, 2006 I really thought Dulles deserved to be in finals, I was almost stunned when they didn't make it. The Clements show was really awesome you guys should be proud. Austin's drumline is insane, keep it up guys. Quote

Yeah, that really wasn't a good feeling. But look at the progress Creek has made: 2nd division at region two years ago and this year two places away from finals! And good luck to those bands who will be representing Area E at state! Quote
brazos_clarinet Posted October 29, 2006 Posted October 29, 2006 i was surprised that elkins did not get into finals and got beat by 4 of the bands that they had beaten at the katy contest thing(2 of which got into finals). that must have been a hard blow for them since they made 5th place in a region with clements, pearland, SFA, and brazoswood two years ago. i was shocked. the clarinet solo was great. but congratulations to those advancing to state. austin was simply amazing. very deep sounds and the dance team was beautiful. langham creek was fantastic as usual. Mr.k08 Posted October 30, 2006 Posted October 30, 2006 I was suprised that Cinco Ranch didn't get into finals. I thought their show was fantastic! My band director told us that y'all spent quite a large amount of money on the show. Quote

Yes, we were very suprised about the results also, but I do not know where you got the idea that we spent a large sum of money. There is nothing we have that costs very much! All of our props are pretty much hand-made by our fabulous band parents/booster club, and the only items I could think of would be the concert french horns we used during one part of our show, but those are school-owned and we purchased those quite some time ago. But thanks anyway for the complement! Quote
cinco_4_life811 Posted October 31, 2006 Author Posted October 31, 2006 The full results are now up on the UIL website http://www.uilforms.com/regions/23/AREA%20...esults-2006.pdf Quote

Mr.k08 Posted October 31, 2006 Posted October 31, 2006 So, two people in SFA can fall and they still get to advance to state? I know if that happend in my band, the judges wouldn't shut up about it. Quote

baritone Posted October 31, 2006 Posted October 31, 2006 Shows how good they are. Judges see past those mistakes cause everything else is so good. Quote
jr520c Posted October 31, 2006 Posted October 31, 2006 OK. Reputation as what? As being a GREAT marching band. They didn't get that reputation by not being great at what they do. Reputation only? So if they went out there and played the same scale up and down out of tune for 8 minutes while not moving at all, would they still advance because of their reputation? NOPE. Anyways, when someone falls, they just need to get back up and move on. Just like everyone should do! (Mr.k08) Quote

But, if the same thing happend to a band the judges haver never heard of or seen , and they put on a better show then Austin, do you think they would have gotten a higher ranking then SFA? Quote
jr520c Posted October 31, 2006 Posted October 31, 2006 I believe they would. Look at state 2004, SFA ranked pretty low compared to BOA Grand Nationals a few days later. This all leads back to the inconsistencies between judges when they judge. I hate that topic. I personally hate the politics of band, as does mostly everyone else. I think it's just awesome when a band no one has heard of owns a band with a great reputation. But to say that a band wins/advances/ranks well ONLY because of their reputation is disrespect to that program. Those students work just as hard as any other band, and I believe we should all respect them as we do any other band. Quote
