themainroo Posted October 29, 2006 Posted October 29, 2006 wow that seems like an accident waiting to happen Quote
n3rdu5 Posted October 29, 2006 Posted October 29, 2006 Wow, I've never heard of that before. I always thought oboes and bassoons were no-no's because of the dangerous reed problem? Hrrm. Quote
SpringSax41 Posted October 29, 2006 Posted October 29, 2006 wow. yep, I would be way too scared of falling with that in my mouth to ever be able to do that! Well, if I played basoon, that is. Quote
trumpetman1288 Posted October 29, 2006 Posted October 29, 2006 I'd be more scared of falling with a clarinet than a bassoon or oboe... I have seen schools march both of them though, so I dunno... Quote
Nancy08 Posted October 29, 2006 Posted October 29, 2006 THAT'S SO COOL!!!! I'd be scared to march a bassoon, but I hate having to switch btwn sax and bassoon. How would you even do that with all the thumb keys? Quote
itsstephenyo Posted October 29, 2006 Posted October 29, 2006 Bassoons and oboes are also extremely tempermental. Any sudden change in the weather causes really wacky things to happen to them. I know my friend Scott, during the cold months, would sit there for about 30 minutes warming up his oboe with his hands and jacket before he played on it. Quote
bossman Posted October 30, 2006 Posted October 30, 2006 i think that's the most retardid thing i've ever seen, seriously, use it as a feature instrument not somthing to march. have some sense Quote
Arabella Posted October 31, 2006 Posted October 31, 2006 That seems pretty dangerous, I'll say. Quote
xraidercutiex Posted October 31, 2006 Posted October 31, 2006 Eep...looks dangerous. along with the spacing. Quote
bossman Posted October 31, 2006 Posted October 31, 2006 Eep...looks dangerous. along with the spacing. LOL Quote

MRS. IaN KiNSLeR Posted October 31, 2006 Posted October 31, 2006 basoon is just a goofy instrument. i can barely sit and play the thing(too big). i don't think marching basoon works(judging by the picture). Quote
MRS. IaN KiNSLeR Posted October 31, 2006 Posted October 31, 2006 it's not a bad thing. i give mad props to anyone who can play it, because i just don't feel comfortable playing it AT ALL. Quote
chickora Posted October 31, 2006 Posted October 31, 2006 yeah almost any instrument you march with is dangerous.. my band director always gets mad when we don't stop when he tells you to..as if he tells you to do a certain set group and the person goes on.. "What if you pushed them with enough force to shove there mouth peice through the back of the head..Hey! It's happened!"... Quote
robs3889 Posted November 2, 2006 Posted November 2, 2006 not exactly the loudest thing on the field, but im sure it adds a different color. Gotta be kind of nerve racking trying to keep it in place though Quote
barisaxy08 Posted November 2, 2006 Posted November 2, 2006 i would be kinda mad if i was that dude and yall had me all on txbands talkin bout me. (Especially if I had an account) haha...i would be really embarassed. I give him big props though...for putting his throat on the line everytime he marches. I got one question though...how in the world does he do "horns up" without hurting himself? Quote

ich spiele die floete Posted November 3, 2006 Posted November 3, 2006 Hmm....I'm not sure if I would be confident enough to march with big 'ol hunky thing.... Quote

G'townPIT Posted November 3, 2006 Posted November 3, 2006 lol I just tried to walk around my house with my basson on a neck strap, it's nearly impossible to play. You have to have the upper body absolutely still because the shock from taking a step moves the reed in your mouth A LOT and screws up your embouchure. Yeah, I have no idea how that kid is doing it.
