dantheman Posted October 29, 2006 Posted October 29, 2006 I thought they were going to this year for some reason. Oh well... Quote
n3rdu5 Posted October 29, 2006 Posted October 29, 2006 Correct, Westfield doesn't do UIL. I thought they were too but I guess not. But Spring does! heehee. Quote
jr520c Posted October 29, 2006 Posted October 29, 2006 State is going to be insane this year. And so the countdown begins... Quote
aggietrumpet327 Posted October 29, 2006 Posted October 29, 2006 The rules on the uil website say: Quote If there are 21 or more bands in prelims the bands ranked in the top ten places will automatically advance to the finals. In addition any band below tenth place that receives a ranking of three or higher from at least two of the music judges and one of the marching judges will also advance to the finals. That's weird that the exception is 3 or higher. It used to be that if two of the music and one of the marching judges put you high enough to be in finals you'd advance. Quote

Xenon Posted October 29, 2006 Author Posted October 29, 2006 Some are placement, some are random, some are alphabetical. Quote

Danpod Posted October 29, 2006 Posted October 29, 2006 There will be a nine-way tie for 10th place. Quote
jr520c Posted October 29, 2006 Posted October 29, 2006 I've never been a spectator at State. Does the Alamodome get a packed during finals? All of the videos make it seem like there are 5 people there Quote

dciguy085 Posted October 29, 2006 Posted October 29, 2006 It will probably end up being a judging nightmare like it always is... Your band's placements will be: 1, 26, 5, 374, 13, and you will win state. I hate UIL. Quote
Mculbert07 Posted October 29, 2006 Posted October 29, 2006 Last time, didnt LD Bell win get like, 1 1 1 1 2? Seems pretty consistant to me... Quote
Xenon Posted October 29, 2006 Author Posted October 29, 2006 Yeah, in 2002, Duncanville got Music: 1 1 1 Marching: 1 2 as well. Quote

All of the videos make it seem like there are 5 people there <_> Well.... Getting into The Alamodome is worse than a New York City traffic jam. A lot of bitter band parents start pushing their way towards the front. It really is a nightmare and I have a feeling that one of these years, if not this year, a shoving match will break out. Again, this is why I've stressed reserved seating for The Alamodome during all band competitions. Without it, it can be a very ugly situation. UIL State is a bloodbath, especially for Finals. This is by far the biggest and most embittered State competition IN THE UNITED STATES. A lot of band parents and former students of programs competing in Finals make it a duty to see just THEIR band and no one else's. That might attribute to the many empty seats shown on State Finals videos. Quote
