MRS. IaN KiNSLeR Posted October 30, 2006 Posted October 30, 2006 texas bands just own, straight up... Quote
jr520c Posted October 30, 2006 Posted October 30, 2006 There are so many great band in Texas. I'd say anywhere between 30-40 bands in Texas just own. Quote
MRS. IaN KiNSLeR Posted October 30, 2006 Posted October 30, 2006 one thing you can never get enough of... great bands. Quote
itsstephenyo Posted October 30, 2006 Posted October 30, 2006 Haha, I like how the general consensus is "A lot." But, really, yea it's true. Texas has a HUGE array of extremely talented bands. Throw in the BOA vs. UIL argument and you have two completely different styles of bands. Duncanville with their extreme UILness, but undoubtedly one of the best playing bands in the nation. Marcus with their crazy props of crabs and fish and other odd sea creatures. Just too many to name. Quote
lol Posted October 31, 2006 Posted October 31, 2006 Texas bands are the best in the nation and with the competitiveness that goes with any sport in the state of Texas alot of them don't get recognition for what they are. I have to say any marching band in the state of Texas could probably go to any other state and be the State Champs. ^___^ conceded i know but what can I say Quote
itsstephenyo Posted October 31, 2006 Posted October 31, 2006 Yes, that is very conceited, considering there are states out there with incredible bands that are on par with the upper echelon of Texas bands. Lassiter, Marian Catholic, Carmel, Kennesaw Mountains, Avon, Tarpon Springs, Broken Arrow, Owasso, etc... are but a few of bands that could compete on the same level as Texas bands. I would, though, say that Texas has the largest concentration of bands. Edit: Whoops. I spelled Marian wrong. Quote
gavinrh Posted October 31, 2006 Posted October 31, 2006 lol whoever was in richland last year... "Owasso!!!"... lol. Quote
itsstephenyo Posted October 31, 2006 Posted October 31, 2006 I don't get that, and I don't think I should, but I really like the Owasso band. We stood next to them in the tunnels of Super Regionals two years ago. Really, really nice kids. Quote
gavinrh Posted October 31, 2006 Posted October 31, 2006 haha owasso was definetly my favorite band last year. I would randomly shout their name at times. It was kinda like having voluntary tourettes. Quote
MmCheezItsYay Posted October 31, 2006 Posted October 31, 2006 were they the band that... in 2004, had... balls? or who was that? cuz whoever that was, it was awesome Quote
bossman Posted October 31, 2006 Posted October 31, 2006 Back to the beginning of this topic. Nobody from another state should be in here... TEXAS owned Quote

Hahha really?? Westfield 2003 Grand Nationals Champion. That's pretty big to me. Spring 1993 Grand Nationals Champion. That's pretty big to me. Richland Grand Nationals Finalists, 7th? place, I think. That's pretty big to me. Marcus 3rd place at BOA SA and high music caption over Reagan, who won the music caption at Grand Nats last year. That's pretty big to me. Truthfully, my honest opinion is that if you don't consider those bands to be "big bands" in Texas, you're an idiot. Quote

itsstephenyo Posted October 31, 2006 Posted October 31, 2006 That doesn't even scratch the surface, especially of Westfield. I think they had some decade long streak of never placing below 2nd place at ANY competition. Quote
saxplaya Posted October 31, 2006 Posted October 31, 2006 If Westfield and Spring aren't big, big bands, then pigs must be flying... There has only been 5 bands that have won 5A UIL state, 2 of them are Westfield and Spring. C'mon now. Quote
