bossman Posted September 26, 2007 Posted September 26, 2007 I think it would be fair...i could very much go out on a limb and say that Marcus topped the rest in 2006. Quote

I was just stating what i saw watching the performances. So, if I compared them to Mansfield, would that be fair? Just trying to understand your logic. What i meant was Marcus's music was at a completley different level of difficulty compared to Bell's. They both played at a very high level, but since Marcus's music was harder, they get more credit. louder and great playing of a peice does not increase its value in comparison to a more complex arrangement that was executed at a similar [if not higher] level. Marcus had fairly simple arrangements of straightforward, classical pieces. The kids at Marcus played the crap out of the show, but it wasn't a difficult show. You must also consider what physical requirements are affecting the music. Bell was running around the field for most of their show (literally!). Marcus had fairly simple drill that didn't strain their musicianship. So, it really depends on where your preference lies. Do you like the solid concert band approach that Marcus takes, or do you prefer the all-out pageant approach of Bell? Quote

Even though some of their music isnt as difficult, the marching portion more than enough makes up for it. I was refering to the music when i was speaking about Marcus, when you take into consideration the difficulty of the DRILL, thats a wholleeeee other story. sorry if that was confusing. I say Marcus's arrangement was more difficult only because they were playing as a complete ensemble for much more of their show, which musically, is much harder. But like you said, its all about preference. Quote

Danpod Posted September 30, 2007 Posted September 30, 2007 Let's get this back on topic. BOA Houston will be next week and we'll definitely see some of the best of the best there. Quote
MaverickBand15 Posted September 30, 2007 Posted September 30, 2007 I would love to see BOA Houston. The only thing holding me back from going is a marching contest that i am attending here. What bands are attending? Quote
Michael Posted September 30, 2007 Posted September 30, 2007 Yeah, I wish I could go too. Quote No one's knocking that. I'm all about being optimistic. However, when you do it on a public forum, it reflects negatively. Okay, whatever... where'd you get that fact? And it's called team spirit. Quote
gavinrh Posted September 30, 2007 Posted September 30, 2007 dude, if we all ran around the forums yelling about how (insert band's name here) pwns all noobs, then the forums would not be a very fun place to be... if you really have an urge to proclaim the superiority of your band, i made a very special thread for it... haha Quote
SerialSleeper90 Posted September 30, 2007 Posted September 30, 2007 Of all the messageboards, TXbands is like a haven to me from flamewars. Lets not argue and bicker. I don't wanna hear whether or not halo 3 pwns the other bands. Quote
