hey, i just watched the 2006 show, and i really liked it. the music, the drill was all really cool, and i especially like the brass ensemble. i really liked that a lot!

Well, we did amazing at contests until BOA SA (didn't do Arlington because of homecoming on the same night) but then SA came and it wasn't so good. Oh well. And yeah the '06 show was my favorite of the two so far that I've been in. It was probably the most complex drill anyone saw in our area except for L.D. Bell from that year. What did y'all play for the winter concert? Do you know about UIL?

our winter concert? lets see... we played the first four movements of enigma, which you should look up. its pretty cool, and one of our uil pieces

and then, we played magnum mysterium (which is a slow piece) and played sleigh ride, my favorite christmas piece ever! :)

what about you?

We played The Glory of the Yankee Navy by Sousa, Blue Shades by Frank Ticheli, Sleigh Ride by Leroy Anderson, and 'Twas the Night Before Christmas (a skit seniors put on with narration and band music, tradition) :]

For UIL, we are playing Red Machine (forgot composer but it's a brand new piece), Circus Band (don't know composer and it's our march), and I forgot the other one. Sorry. I'm also in the full orchestra and we have the second best full orchestra in the state from 2006-2007 year! (We would have gotten 1st if one judged had ranked us one higher...)

blue shades! oh my gosh, another band at our school is playing that, and i really wish i was in that band instead of honors, lol

you had a really good program, i love all those pieces and that skit sounds like a lot of fun

oh wow, orchestra. i've been in orchestras before, for region and area bands. i felt so out of place among all the strings! (and they are all asian!) tehee

anyways, being second best in the entire state is so cool... but it figures with the judges. our school has a problem with judges as well

Your directors/school won't complain about the innuendo on the front?

Schools have a tendency to flip out over the most minutely suggestive stuff....I hope that won't be the case with you guys, it's a cool shirt :).

Nah. I got it approved at the end of last year. That's the good thing about having an oblivious Band Director. He didn't get it at all and thought it was clever. I thought our new director would have a problem about it but then she wore a shirt that said "check out my asymtope" and I was like THANK YOU if you can wear that then we can wear ours.

I post on and off on these forums.... Maybe a couple of times every marching season.

But as far as trying out on piccolo...

I feel like it's kind of like cheating. It's easy to make it on piccolo if you have a nice tone. I've been playing picc for three years and would never think of trying for state on it. Or at least if I did, I wouldn't brag too much about it. I would feel so much more accomplished making it on flute. There are sooo many AMAZING picc players that don't audition on it because they want to go up against "real competition," so those who make it on picc aren't necessarily the best players in the state. I go to Hebron, and therefore I go up against Marcus, Flower Mound, and other phenomenal flute/picc schools, and this is my senior year. If I wanted a guarenteed state chair, I would do it on picc... But I'm going to step up to the plate like the last three years and do it on flute.

By the way I (primarily) play picc in the GDYO Wind Symphony. I think that's good enough proof that I don't suck.

Ours last year... that we never got made... were going to say "Flutes, The Best section You've never heard before." and then have our names on the back. I liked it a lot, but I ran out of time in my schedule to get them done.

Bahaha... I did the shirts this year. They're a ply on the Guitar Hero logo... Y'know... "Flute Hero." They're lime green. :)

Okay, when I first got on here I went to the most recent posts and read "Flutes, the best section youve heard before" skipped the word never. Then I started at the top becuase I'm kinda bored, reread it, and I think that's hilarious. :] I can't wait until our shirts get in. Ours are the neon colors with the "I'd hit that." I'm excited.

btw i hate region and am forced to go! and i hate the music this year. stupid key signatures... "/

Our flute shirts are very pink and they say "Flutes kick brass". :P We had to go get it approved, and we thought that our (mostly brass players) directors wouldn't, but Mr Brandon just laughed.

I'm trying out on picc again- I obviously need to work harder. I kinda slacked off during marching season... whoops.

What kind of piccolo do most of y'all play on? (Out of pure curiosity) I play on a Hammig (solid silver mechanism) with a wave headjoint. Man, I have some stories..... including why you should never sit on your piccolo...

pretty much sums up what happened in my daughter's band also. I saw all the other sections' shirts but none for the flutes. Finally on the last week of marching season one girl collected $10 from each person and bought white t-shirts and I loaned/gave tshirt paints, decorations, and such and the girls hand-made their own shirts. I heard that the seniors weren't too happy at first but then was told it was some kind of misunderstanding....whatever.
