Gltokensp06 Posted November 2, 2006 Posted November 2, 2006 For me, Candide Suite is better. You just can't beat Make Our Garden Grow played extremly well. Its absolutely breath-taking played with excellent tone quality and balance. Quote
barisaxy08 Posted November 2, 2006 Posted November 2, 2006 Westfield's concert band will be playing that this year so i wouldn't be able to tell you until the first concert. Quote
MmCheezItsYay Posted November 2, 2006 Posted November 2, 2006 our opener is Make Our Garden Grow Quote
MRS. IaN KiNSLeR Posted November 2, 2006 Posted November 2, 2006 i like the overture better. to me it's just more exciting, cus there's a whole lot more going on. Quote
Gltokensp06 Posted November 2, 2006 Author Posted November 2, 2006 We played that my sophomore year while I was in Concert Band. Sad thing is, we beat all the other first bands at UIL except for Westfield, Spring and the Woodlands. So the order was Westfield 1st Spring 1st Woodland 1st Westfield 2nd Kingwood 1st Klien 1st etc... It was awesome. I we played Candide Suite(Bernstien), Mock Morris (Grainger) and some march i cant remember. Quote
itsstephenyo Posted November 2, 2006 Posted November 2, 2006 I hate Mock Morris... It's Grainger's own knockoff of a Grainger piece. Haha Molly on the Shore is definitely better. Quote
MRS. IaN KiNSLeR Posted November 3, 2006 Posted November 3, 2006 molly on the shore kicks a. my personal fav is irish tune... it's such an emotional piece. Quote

Molly is cool, but i dont like it that much - and im a clarinet player too. its just the same bit repeated over and over again... Quote
G'townPIT Posted November 3, 2006 Posted November 3, 2006 I like the suite better, we played it my sophmore year. This year, my senior year, we're playing the overture. And niagra falls! Quote
n3rdu5 Posted November 3, 2006 Posted November 3, 2006 Okay, this is actually kinda scary because I have been on a Candide fix for the past few weeks...haha... As previously stated, Make Our Garden Grow is our Opener this year. I love it, haha. Probably because I love the actual operetta. But I do love the Overture as well...it's so fun, and there's so many cool parts in it. Ahhh. I don't know! Anything Candide is great. Haha. I love that operetta. Quote
MRS. IaN KiNSLeR Posted November 3, 2006 Posted November 3, 2006 i've never played molly on the shore... i just think it's cool to listen to. it's one of those to have, just not put on a playlist, lol. Quote
Gltokensp06 Posted November 3, 2006 Author Posted November 3, 2006 Hmm, I Played Molly on the Shore and Candide Suite. Niagra Falls makes me wanna hump somthing if you know what I mean.... Irish Tune for a County Derry gets old to me. Don't take it offensively please! I know some die-hard fans who would defend that piece to the grave LOL! Mock Morris is not knockoff Grainger. It was one of his more simpler works that still embodied his style. Like Shepherd's Hey or Molly on the Shore for that matter. To his more intricate works like Children's March or Linclonshire Posey. Both of which I LOVE! Don't get me started on what is Grainger and what isn't dude, i'll kick ur butt!! Quote
jbrih13 Posted November 6, 2006 Posted November 6, 2006 Im not a big fan of Molly on the Shore...Most of the clarinet i know enjoyed it. We are playing overture to candide this spring, so we'll see how it goes Quote
