TXGABandFan Posted November 2, 2006 Posted November 2, 2006 I maybe wrong but I believe that UIL and BOA have different show length restrictions as well as other key differences. So I'm just curious if bands that are competing at both BOA SA on Saturday and at UIL on Tuesday alter their shows for the time differences allowed, or make other changes for the different judging formats. trumpetman1288 Posted November 2, 2006 Posted November 2, 2006 Usually shows are pretty much the exact same thing, but the opening or closing may be different. If you watch Reagan 2004 at state, you will notice that they cut the last two minutes (approx) and had an alternate ending. In 2005 at UIL, they cut out the whole piano intro and woodwind runs and started right when the whole band comes in. Not sure how they ended though. Reagan is one of the better examples that I can think of right now. There are some other bands that do that, but I can't think of them right now. Quote
the_DRUM_MAJOR Posted November 3, 2006 Posted November 3, 2006 woodlands cut out the hiding part of their show in the beginning for UIL i think.. Quote
FunkyFlute07 Posted November 3, 2006 Posted November 3, 2006 i know we alter our show for BOA...i don't know why we even go..but we do. and its fun. so yeah. its tweaked just so we know it is. Quote
Skippy Posted November 3, 2006 Posted November 3, 2006 In 2004, we couldn't do the last part of our show. Same with LD Bell this year. Quote
Warfact Posted November 6, 2006 Posted November 6, 2006 so far while i've been at smith, our shows have been apx 7 min 45 sec total for both UIL and BOA, so we haven't had to cut off any part of it i remember last year, creekview added an entire movement to their show for the super regional Quote
n3rdu5 Posted November 6, 2006 Posted November 6, 2006 I hope Bell doesn't have to edit their show for UIL...I'll cry if I can't see the whole thing at State, haha. Quote
Band_Freak Posted November 6, 2006 Posted November 6, 2006 Bands have been "altering" shows for 10+ years now. Ever since the "8 hour/8 minute" rule came into being in 1996, bands have scrambled to find the happy medium. If you can squeeze in that much more excitement, then more power to ya! Quote
bossman Posted November 7, 2006 Posted November 7, 2006 i've never even been to a UIL event. but it sounds very strict Quote

Skippy Posted November 7, 2006 Posted November 7, 2006 I don't think it will have much of an effect in placement actually. Part 5 doesn't consist of a ton of marching or playing, it's just theatrical (for lack of a better word). The kind of stuff that gets emotion across and GE scores through the roof, but nothing that a UIL judge would really care about. It is REALLY cool though. Quote
