maybe we could negotiate a trade of sorts.....

today we read and listened to "A Movement for Rosa [Parks]" it was pretty cool, my first impression was that it would make a perfect marching show.

it kinda annoyed a lot of us that the last chord doesnt resolve :o

now, we have for our feature piece between:

festive overture

molly

tempered steel

rosa

we've also been working chistmas stuff - the usual:

sleigh ride

christmas festival

and something that was backordered..lol

If your band has the brass and low reeds players, then I would definately go for Tempered Steel. If performed well, you can never go wrong with it. Other than that, I really haven't heard the others :P . It takes a while to work out the technicality of TS, but months of hard work and practice will be fine.

we are set on:

Movement for Rosa

Shepard's Hey

Blackhorseman Troupe (Sousa) is not set yet, but we have the music

I believe it's entitled The Black Horse Troop. That's a deceptively difficult march. I love it, though. I love most of Sousa's marches.

Well right now we are wroking on our Winter Concert pieces. For that concert we are playing Fanfare for a Festive Day, Traursinfonie, In the Center Ring, and Marche Militaire. The march militaire is also going to be our march for UIL. Oh this is the Seguin Wind Ensemble btw. Also we are going to be sightreading 2 pieces next week and we choose one of those 2 and the other piece for UIL is coming in. We can only rent the last piece because our BD said that its really good that you cant buy it and own it. So thats what we have so far.

Man I love Tempered Steel. It was the main theme for our field show in 2000 (the first and only year Georgetown has marched in the 5A State Marching Band contest). It's an awesome concert piece too, but only when played at a fast tempo....at the standard tempo it just sounds like any other piece with percussive brass (quite the compositional trend nowadays I might add).

I don't know what Georgetown is doing this spring, but at Blinn we'll be doing Circus Franticus, Chiaroscuro by Robert Sheldon, English Folk Song Suite, either a Piano or Flute Concerto, some excerpts from Morceau de Concerte for Horn (with Horn soloist), along with either Four Scottish Dances or Carmina Burana I'm assuming. That's about it for our Spring Tour.

Symphonic Metamorphesis - Paul Hindemith
