ClarinetGlissandoInBlue Posted November 9, 2006 Posted November 9, 2006 before next year, i have three choices: 1) quit marching band completely - pursue other interests (science research - it's up there with music in my life) since marching takes much time. but it (marching band) is awesome - those long afternoon practices, moving 5 circles during class, and marching for those audiences are an unrivaled experiences of HS (not a real choice) 2) stay in band and be a leader (woodwind section or whatever) and march 3) try out for DM - i have no experience at all, but it would be a cool thing to do. EDIT: "cool" doesnt contain a tone of nonchalance any ideas? Quote
itsstephenyo Posted November 9, 2006 Posted November 9, 2006 Well, if you're considering quitting, I don't believe you'd exactly be the prime example of leadership. Being drum major isn't just "cool." It's really taxing work. If you're going to be in band, be in there because you love to do it not because you think "it'd be cool to be drum major." Quote

lar-ghetto Posted November 9, 2006 Posted November 9, 2006 One school in our region had a drum major quit band after marching season. They were only in it so it would look good on their hs resume/didn't want to march. That's what I heard... Quote
whitewing09 Posted November 9, 2006 Posted November 9, 2006 well i see it as.. if quitting is an option then why are you trying out for DM i mean the DM is suppose to be very devoted to band and sure they want to be there thru the thick and thin. Quote

As for the DM thing, I'll probably try out - when i'm committed to something, i use all of my energy to do a good job and won't disappoint. Quote
MmCheezItsYay Posted November 12, 2006 Posted November 12, 2006 one of our drum majors quit after marching season last year... bleh. Quote
ClarinetGlissandoInBlue Posted November 15, 2006 Author Posted November 15, 2006 yeah, i'm 99.999 repeating% sure that i'm not quitting marching band psst, 99.999 repeating is 100, not rounded to be 100, it is100. Quote
