BDAZdrummer Posted November 14, 2006 Posted November 14, 2006 wat size bass drums do yalls schools use? Quote
BDAZdrummer Posted November 16, 2006 Author Posted November 16, 2006 ok? well i ask bcuz they plan to take out my 28inch bass out of the line bcuz of the dome for state and they wanna put in a 14 inch bass meaning our smallest will b a 14inch but i disagree with my directors doing that bcuz the 28inch gives our drumline more personality with lower and darker tones Quote
springbassliner26 Posted November 16, 2006 Posted November 16, 2006 16'', 18''(<---mine), 20'', 24'', and 28'' I think. In my opinion, our top bass puts out massive sound when you just tap it, so anything like a 14'' might be too high pitched and would probably transmit sound way more than any other in the line, possibly making it sound like a tick. And I agree with you about the 28'' being the dark and low tone, but I can see what your director is saying. The sound that the 28'' made, depending on how what the pitch of the head is and how tight it is, could ring forever in the dome. But don't go listening to me, I'm only a sophmore, I'm sure your director knows what he's doing. So I would trust him. Quote

Yeah that thing's pretty cool... Back to the topic, i'm pretty sure we use an 18 (<-- used to be mine), 20, 22, 24, 28, and 32. Maybe it's a 30... I'm not quite sure b/c we didn't have bass 6 when i played bass. (<--good times) Quote

percussioninstructor Posted November 30, 2006 Posted November 30, 2006 Basses...the LOUDEST instruments on the field! The program I teach had a thin year..only 35 winds so percussion blend and balance was a constant issue. I used 16, 20, 24, 26 with very small mallets. The bottom end was compensated in the pit with concert bass. Do you know how hard it is to have young bass players, play softly??? Quote

It's hard to play that soft. Especially triplet roll, geeze, that's tough. Quote
