**gracie** Posted July 12, 2005 Posted July 12, 2005 Okay I am completely computer illiterate, all I want to do is to be able to check my e-mail. Here's the problem: When I click Send/Recieve, it starts to, and then asks for my password. I give it the password and then it pops up asking for the password again in a few second, and on and on. I have tried everything I can think of: I went to tools, and then e-mail accounts, and I checked my password so many times. When I looked it up online, it said my account may be 'corrupted' and to delete it and start over. If I start over Do I lose all the e-mails I would have recieved over the last few days? What exactly does 'corrupted' (in terms of e-mail) mean? I can send mail, I just can't recieve any. And I'm expecting some important e-mails soon.... Please help me!!! If you have any possible solution, I'm desperate.... Quote
Dynasty Posted July 12, 2005 Posted July 12, 2005 Go to Tools ---> Accounts ---> then double click on your account. Go to your Internet Provider's website, and find a page that talks about the mail configuration. Make sure your current settings match what the page says. If you do have to delete your account, you will not lose your emails. Your important emails will not go anywhere, until a computer recieves them. Quote
Jag Posted July 13, 2005 Posted July 13, 2005 Corrupt, when talking about computer stuff, means that the code or information within something has been altered or changed so that it can not be normally read or used anymore. If you didn't change anything with outlook and had it working before, the problem is almost certainly with your actual account. I would say that if you are unable to check your mail online then it is likely you won't get any recent emails. If you are not able to get a hold of your email provider and ask them about this then I think the best thing would be to delete it and start over so as to get any new emails as soon as possible. Make sure you can still get the same address though. Quote
Dynasty Posted July 13, 2005 Posted July 13, 2005 Two more ideas... I use SBC Yahoo! DSL, and I can either get messages in my inbox, or if I don't catch them (recieve them) with Outlook, I can read them via Yahoo! Mail using my DSL login info, etc. Also, the Thunderbird email client is a good replacement to Outlook Express. Its free! Quote
**gracie** Posted July 13, 2005 Author Posted July 13, 2005 Thanks so much!! I looked up some computer geek websites and downloaded stuff, and found out that the account is corrupt (props to Jag for telling me what that means:) because it wasn't closed before shutting down (or sthing like that...) which probably happened in the thunderstorm earlier this week, when I was checking e-mail and the power went out....I think that's what happened.... According to the outlook express website, I'll need to delete and rebuild my account. But, being the helpful people they are, they didn't tell me how to do that, and being the computer-illiterate person I am.....I need your help (again:) How do I delete it??? Rebuild it??? I am sooo lost.... But thank you guys a ton!! You're so helpful! Thanks Jag!! Thanks Dynasty!! Quote
Dynasty Posted July 13, 2005 Posted July 13, 2005 Before you Delete, Load Outlook Express (OE), Click on Tools ---> Accounts. On the window that opens, hit 'Mail' at the top. Hit properties. Copy ALL the information under the Servers Tab. Then hit cancel. Select your account, and click on 'Remove' to delete the account. To make a new account, click add --> Mail (This is all under the 'Accounts' Menu). Then input the information, as asked, using what you copied earlier. Who is your Internet Service Provider? Quote

Thanks..... Okay, I opened the OE, and clicked on tools, then e-mail accounts. There isn't anything that says "mail" at the top; it says 'add new account' or 'change existing account'...I clicked on the second option. I copied all the info, and saved it in word just to be safe. Then I hit cancel, there's no option to 'remove' or 'delete' on the account menu.....what now? Can I create the exact same account without deleting it? common sense tells me no, but you never know... I have road runner. Quote
Dynasty Posted July 13, 2005 Posted July 13, 2005 Ok, first off, are you using OUTLOOK EXPRESS, or MICROSOFT OUTLOOK? Look at the very top. Here is my 'Outlook Express'. Gracie, if its easier, get me on AIM at TexasBandsDotCom! Quote

Dynasty Posted July 13, 2005 Posted July 13, 2005 Press F1, and search the help. If you can tell me what version of outlook you have (Help --> About microsoft outlook), I can give you specific info. Quote
