percussioninstructor Posted November 30, 2006 Posted November 30, 2006 Hey everyone, being from out of state I have a question. Is Indoor(WGI) percussion a big thing in Texas? I mean do a lot of schools do it? What other "winter" percussion activities happen out there? Quote
Lustra.exe Posted November 30, 2006 Posted November 30, 2006 We do participate in WGI but there is also another circuit of events called TCGC. Texas Color Guard Circuit. It's only on the state level though. Basically the equivalent to UIL and BOA. And I believe they have the same divisions as WGI. For example, Independent Open, Scholastic Open, A, AA, AAA. There arn't any WGI regionals in Texas this year... I remember there being some though in the past. I don't think it's exactly BIG or trendy, but is getting more so each year. Connally has a marching indoor ensemble. Quote
Moose Posted December 1, 2006 Posted December 1, 2006 www.austinindependent.org Auditions this sunday ( the third) in San Marcos, and another one in austin I believe. Quote
percussioninstructor Posted December 1, 2006 Author Posted December 1, 2006 Ok sweet. Connally? Hey congrats on the BOA finish... You wouldnt happen to know if theres a percussion staff position open over there would ya? Quote
Danpod Posted December 1, 2006 Posted December 1, 2006 Indoor percussion is not a big trend in Texas, unfortunately. WGI will not hold any percussion regionals in Texas this year, probably because of poor attendance in previous regionals. There are A LOT of fantastic percussion lines in the State of Texas that don't compete very often in the spring. I'm not a percussionist, but I love indoor drumline! I just wish there was more of it in the State. Quote

(Not saying concert experience isnt important either) but in general, percussionists have an inner "rock-star" that needs to be released...lol Las Vegas didnt have ANY indoor circuit until 2 years ago. The 'lines that had a show usually went to Cali to perform. It just takes a little time and the right people pushing for it. Where there is an interest, it will develop. I love indoor as well, and I wish was in exisistence when I went to high school!! All I got to do was outdoor standstill...ooo...exciting.. Quote
