whitewing09 Posted December 3, 2006 Posted December 3, 2006 i can see how this can go both ways but i just wanted to see what yall thought Quote
bluebellbrass07 Posted December 3, 2006 Posted December 3, 2006 2 teams make it in football 30 something teams make it in band Quote
Aegis Fang Posted December 3, 2006 Posted December 3, 2006 Physically, Football Mentally, band 100 fold *if you march right* Marching band takes more skill. Quote
chickora Posted December 3, 2006 Posted December 3, 2006 considering our team just lost to allen.. i'm going with football.. >.< Quote
whitewing09 Posted December 3, 2006 Author Posted December 3, 2006 i have mix feelings on this, cuz football yes only two teams make it, but if you look at it in band you have more competition going from area to state then at state the blood bath begins for the top 3 spots Quote

pianomusicman89 Posted December 4, 2006 Posted December 4, 2006 this is totaly like comparing apples and oranges. you can't compare them at all. in both, it takes great amout of skill, concentration, devotion, and conditioning. how many of you actually play football too? lol. so i think it's even harder to compare unless you've actually have done both marching and football varsity playing. sorry if this sounds rude, but i feel strongle about this :-) Quote
gavinrh Posted December 5, 2006 Posted December 5, 2006 you can get really lotto in football because you're actually competing at the same time on the same field as the other team. in band your group is the only one that can hurt it and that makes it a bit easier i think. Quote
whitewing09 Posted December 5, 2006 Author Posted December 5, 2006 then i was think, its so unfair in football, like for 3A alot of really really really good schools got put in Division 2 which were like us, Giddings,Wimberly,Cuero, WestOrangeStark, etc. and division one didnt really have any one as well known idk Quote
Tnilli Posted December 5, 2006 Posted December 5, 2006 I agree with piano...you cant compare these at all... Quote
crazyjakeup Posted December 5, 2006 Posted December 5, 2006 Nancy08 said: it takes alot more skill for marching band not true, have you tried to work with or against a great no-huddle offense like southlake carroll, if twas so easy everyone would do it. my band made state (2nd in area c) and we had 3/4s of our band that where underclassmen. the valley football teams are way undersized compared too the san antonio and corpus teams they have to face but in band you dont have to be 6 foot 3 and 230 lbs to be good. anyone who says football is not a "smart/skillfull sport" apperntly hasnt played football. jbrih13 Posted December 5, 2006 Posted December 5, 2006 IDK, i think its almost even, its hard to make state in band, and its different but equally hard to make state in football Quote
clarinetrocks Posted December 5, 2006 Posted December 5, 2006 i think band cause your competing with a lot of other bands and everyone wants to make it to finals! plus we do have anything like football like a winning streak...unless you won finals the year before and before and before.... Quote
whitewing09 Posted December 5, 2006 Author Posted December 5, 2006 ok i did not mean if its harder to play an instrument and march on the field then making touch downs. cuz yes that is comparing an apple and an orange or whatever! i meant like the way you make state. ya know like region, area, area, finals, state, state finals for band versus district, bidistrict, region, area, state. or how ever it goes for football. Not a single one of you can convince me otherwise. It takes multiple runs of a show to equal one football game time wise. With band your only pounding on your own body, its something you can control. With football, your getting fought (especially if on o-line or d-line) every single play. I dont care if you even compare practices to each other, but the actual fact of playing those football games week in and week out takes its tolls on people. It takes a lot more physical strength to stay good to make the playoffs, especially when your competition happens every Friday night to show you how good (or bad) you are. With band...you maybe go to 3 or 4 contests before state. That may not make a whole lot of sense...if not call me out and i'll try better...its late and finals are kickin my butt. Quote
Band_Person Posted December 6, 2006 Posted December 6, 2006 There are 2 UIL state champion football teams every year. There is only 1 state marching band champion every 2 years. Since there are 4 times as many football championship winners it is easier to win a football championship than a marching band championship. Quote

Quote
whitewing09 Posted December 7, 2006 Author Posted December 7, 2006 ^ but thats still unfair cuz there are ALOT of good bands in area D i bet Westlake and Leander could make state if they were in different areas. and football has state every year we only get it like once every two years. and people stop comparing how hard the two are!! jeez they both got there ups and downs, shouldnt really try saying one is ALOT harder then the other Quote

chickora Posted December 7, 2006 Posted December 7, 2006 Thanks. They did, but I just wish they went to state. However, I'm proud of the boys. Quote
crazyjakeup Posted December 20, 2006 Posted December 20, 2006 ^hey i read about that in the paper garland lost too... Quote
barisaxy08 Posted December 20, 2006 Posted December 20, 2006 u have to march good in order to make it to state in band... u have to kill people in order to make it to state in football... Quote
