So, how'd everyone do at region auditions?

As for euphoniums in our region: I made 3rd, missing area by one chair; Mr. Dynasty made 2nd, while Ms. Silme made 5th.

4th chair clarinet, 2nd band...not bad, considering I was 15th last year

 

That would be 16th/31 or something like that...last year, when there were 48 clarinets, I was #42 in the region

Okay, so this was my first year of trying out. I got 13th chair concert. I'm just glad I made it to phase 2.

 

clarinet is highly competitive.

i did horrible i got really nervous, i played the scales good well all but the chromatic then i just like crapped thru the music cuz i was so nervous

i honestly think alto sax is more competitive than clarinette considering last year, im my region, there were 100 saxophones audition in phase one, and they took 14 to phase two. and at phaase two they only take two to area. not trying to diss the clarinette b/c i know its hard too. but in my opinion i think alto is a little more difficult, edgier.

yeah, true.. they took less saxes than clarinets.

well with 60+ percussionist trying out, phase two is 18.

 

but they only advance two to area. so i would say that percussion is probably the most cut-throat.

I made region! My goal this year was to beat one guy that always seems to edge me out, but he's not in this region anymore! I actually made first chair...*gasp* I was so shocked. Half the band was freakin out, cause no one expected it.

region band pretty much sucked for me.... mainly because when i got in there they told us to play #20 & all of us from Spring had #19 & had been practicing the wrong music since august.... It sucked!!!! but o well.... thank goodness it's over!

I pretty much sucked to. I waited until 2 weeks before to learn my music, so i didnt know it that well, and then my band directors had me practiceing the hardest parts of the songs, so i knew them all well. We get our little stickers, and im letter A which really sux, and then the judge gives us a cut and I have never played that part of the music before. But i really dont care about region band. I was playing with my socks on, coloring in my coloring book, and eating honey roasted peanuts...i really didnt care, maybe i will next year. But i didnt get last, i like 13th out of 20ish, but they only take 6...do i care??? Not really

I did perfectly, though I didn't make it. I guess actually going and auditioning would help, but my lack of audition was amazing.

Yeah, I didn't do so well... But, I don't really care about the auditions, so I suppose that's okay. And, plus, we were playing for stupid trumpet judges that don't know anything about bassoon. So it's all good.

freshman year (no lessons) - 45 overall

last year (3 lessons) - 15 or 16 overall

last week - 2 overall

 

violin, clarinet, trumpet, and flutes have crazy competition, maybe not so much at region depending on region and the year, but i've heard that area is absolutely crazy.

 

i'll be actually practicing this holiday - not like thanksgiving week when i said the same thing and never touched the instrument...

I made 20th out of 27 tubas in my region. Meh, My first etude was terrible. I had never really played it. I did OK on the other two. This was the first year I had ever done region. Most boring 3 and a half hours of my life
