TX Suh-nare Posted December 19, 2006 Posted December 19, 2006 What do you think? Is Richard Saucedo's music worthy of the concert hall more than Eric Whitacre's is of the 100-yard Stage? That's for YOU to decide! Quote
LdTrumpetWailer Posted December 20, 2006 Posted December 20, 2006 for some reason I think people under 25 are uncapable to Whitacre and Saucedo has some pretty good pieces in orchestra and symphony. so yeah I voted Saucedo. just like the Imogen Heap stuff is going to be over used in a year and love that stuff but hey who am I to talk? bluebellbrass07 Posted December 20, 2006 Posted December 20, 2006 Eric Whitacres music has been done many times on the field and Saucedos music has been done many times on the stage already. So maybe you mean like Saecedos marching arrangements? Quote
TX Suh-nare Posted December 20, 2006 Author Posted December 20, 2006 Yeah. I had no idea Saucedo was a chamber composer Quote
bluebellbrass07 Posted December 20, 2006 Posted December 20, 2006 He isn't to the scale that Whitacre is but he still has quite a bit of stuff out there. Check out windsprints Quote

bluebellbrass07 Posted December 21, 2006 Posted December 21, 2006 I played one saucedo piece at the TCU band weekend 2 years ago. I want never to hear of that song again. Im sure he feels the same way ^^^^^ Quote
LdTrumpetWailer Posted December 21, 2006 Posted December 21, 2006 oh yeah! never again!!!! This isthe true indicator of an awful band camp. When the clinician comes out and says "Hi, I'm @#$%#@! and I'll be your clinician. Alright lets start, shall we?. Does anybody know what 6/8 time is?" I died right on the spot. Total suck Quote
bluebellbrass07 Posted December 21, 2006 Posted December 21, 2006 And we get to be honored with his prescence again in Januarary. oh boy.... I think he also had to explain 5/4, and we played a song called "Country bandstand march" or something like that. It was basically the same thing over and over and over just in different keys, and then just randomly ended on a high b-flat. Smart Quote

Smart hmm... maybe that's y I'm bitter about losing to Carmel. and I think we rocked that high b-flat even when half the band was in marching band uniforms and we had tuxes. sa weet! Quote
whitewing09 Posted December 21, 2006 Posted December 21, 2006 umm can you really compare how good someone does in symphony to how good someone does on the field? ill quote someone who told me this before "Its like comparing an apple and a banana, they're too different" Quote

bluebellbrass07 Posted December 21, 2006 Posted December 21, 2006 QUOTE (itsstephenyo @ Dec 21 2006, 11:49 AM) Country Band March by Charles Ives? I love that piece. Oh god no, not even close. It was a beggining band piece. Quote

Ouch. I was wondering why you said the piece was in 5/4 when the Ives piece is in 4/4. That explains it. Quote
bluebellbrass07 Posted December 21, 2006 Posted December 21, 2006 The 5/4 piece was "Alligator Alley" that was too hard for us thoguh.... See here is what happened. We got there late cuz we had school, so they throw us in a room, give us about 2 minutes tops to warmup, then we are judged by the assistant trombone professor. Then they just put us as the top 2 chairs in the 2nd band. 1st band plays Salvation is Created, and some other good stuff. We play that, a very eash march, and a very easy saucedo piece. Quote
LdTrumpetWailer Posted December 21, 2006 Posted December 21, 2006 he's not lieing either. It was so pathetic that I felt like quit band but more or less just crying in a bathroom. To add on to that the former all-state trumpet at our school saw our performance. ouch, it sucked! Quote
