syclone1635 Posted December 24, 2006 Posted December 24, 2006 My mom got an email from the director's saying that Cedar Park had won the Sousa Award, witch is a national award that a band must be nominated for by a board member or something for the award. Apparently one of the judges from either area or region nominated us for it. Does anyone know for sure if we won it? Quote
bluebellbrass07 Posted December 24, 2006 Posted December 24, 2006 Well if your director said so im sure you did... Quote
MartinHorn Posted December 24, 2006 Posted December 24, 2006 Quote The Cedar Park High School Timberwolf Band was awarded the prestigious Sudler Shield from the John Phillip Sousa Foundation at the Midwest Band and Orchestra Clinic/Convention in Chicago, Illinois. The Sudler Shield is an international award recognizing high school and youth marching bands of world class excellence. The Sudler Shield is endowed by Louis and Virginia Sudler and administered by the John Philip Sousa Foundation. The Sudler Shield committee is chaired by former Texas Tech marching band director Keith Bearden and consists of fourteen members. This jury includes university and high school band directors from throughout the United States. Each year the committee meets at the Midwest Band and Orchestra Clinic/Convention. Here the jury views video and reviews materials of bands that have been placed in nomination for the award. The Cedar Park Band was nominated by the Sudler Shield Project Chair, Mr. Keith Bearden, after our performance at the Area Marching Contest. Cedar Park is one of only six band in the state of Texas and 42 bands in the world to receive this honor. This would not have been possible without the positive attitudes, dedication and hard work of our fine students! Please join me in congratulating their outstanding efforts! The Sudler Shield will be presented at either the End of Year Concert or Band Banquet.
