Chives Posted August 6, 2005 Posted August 6, 2005 'Round here, I've seen West Side Story too many times, along with Appalachian Spring and The Planets. Symphonic Metamorphosis has been done a lot, but there's enough different spins on it where it hasn't completely lost its freshness. Although it's not there yet, I'm predicting Scheherazade will become the next overplayed show. Quote
Sockercon Posted August 6, 2005 Posted August 6, 2005 you know whats being overplayed, voice overs, you dont need them to get a point across to the audiance Quote
TX Suh-nare Posted August 7, 2005 Posted August 7, 2005 Can I get an "AMEN?" (Insert "AMEN" here) Quote

LOL so THATS why people are singing it all the time during rehersal. I was wondering, because last year for MS UIL we did "Simple Gifts". And them singing middle school songs= very strange. Quote
bariphonium Posted August 12, 2005 Posted August 12, 2005 Planets, Appalachin Springs, Symphonic Metamorphosis, for starts. However, if any are done well, I have no objections. Quote
the_DRUM_MAJOR Posted August 12, 2005 Posted August 12, 2005 applachian spring worked for SFA too lol but i agree with bariphonium, if theyre played well. theres absolutley no problem with it Quote
TRtrumpet Posted August 12, 2005 Posted August 12, 2005 Land of 1000 dances is probly an overplayed marching song. Quote
arundo Posted August 13, 2005 Posted August 13, 2005 Its an overplayed pep song...but I know of no band that marches to that song currently...Unless someone wants to enlighten me on a band that does... Quote
arundo Posted August 13, 2005 Posted August 13, 2005 Maybe if we were to go back into the 70's...if only... Quote
mindfulmusician Posted November 7, 2005 Posted November 7, 2005 Pardon my ignorance, but how many bands have done "Young Person's Guide to the Orchestra?" I mean, I know Lassiter did it in 2003, and Reagan did some excerpts in "Synergy" last year, but who else has done it? - mindfulmusician Quote
bored2damax Posted November 8, 2005 Posted November 8, 2005 I would say that cirque de soleil has been overplayed way too much. Quote
TRtrumpet Posted November 8, 2005 Posted November 8, 2005 I think Bishop did that as one of thier songs. Quote
TRtrumpet Posted November 28, 2005 Posted November 28, 2005 I was watching our marching comp dvd and just realized that 5 schools did phantom of the opera as their show at our marching comp. They were all unique tho and they all got 1's. Quote

It really makes you feel inferior when you're in a the same/similar situation as they were but fail to measure up to what they accomplished. I really want to know what the difference between the Cedar Park band of that year and ours... maybe the one more class a year thing we've been doing (that thankfully will finally be done with next year) is the culprit, but unfortunately its really more likely to be just laziness among students and weaker directing... along with a really, REALLY small first year class. We will overcome... someday... hopefully... Quote
