bored2damax Posted January 11, 2007 Posted January 11, 2007 So we, seguin high school, are going to be playing Marche Militaire Francaise by Camille Saint-Saens. I really like this piece because the baritones play woodwind like runs on this piece. This is going to be our march for UIL. I have never heard of this piece until this year. Well we sightread 2 pieces yesterday and today and we had to vote on which one we wanted to play., One is Festive Overture by Shostakavich and the other is Overture to Colas Breugnon by Kabalevsky. I like both pieces but which one do yall think is more fun to play??? The third piece is still unknown to us. Our BD told us that people can only rent the piece and not actually buy it or own it. So what is everyone playing??? Quote
Serardian Posted January 11, 2007 Posted January 11, 2007 Festive Overture and Overture to Colas Breugnon are both really fun to play! Either way, you'll have fun. I personally like Colas better, though. Quote
gavinrh Posted January 11, 2007 Posted January 11, 2007 the richland jazz band's playing love for sale and nutville as of now yeah, i know this is a uil thread, but i didnt feel like making a jazz band thread Quote

aggietrumpet327 Posted January 11, 2007 Posted January 11, 2007 Marche Militaire is one of my favorite marches. I love the trumpet fanfare at the end. And I knooow I've played the Kabalevsky before, and I know I really enjoyed it, but I can't remember when... Oh well. Quote
bored2damax Posted January 11, 2007 Author Posted January 11, 2007 I know. Our trumpets our working on the ending. They should have it down by the time UIL comesup. Quote

teh_branday Posted January 20, 2007 Posted January 20, 2007 Heck yeah it is!, But its a B**ch to put togather in some parts lol ha. Heroes was actually pretty fun to do despite the complications. my school's wind ensemble (Samuel Clemens) is playing: noisy wheels of joy - eric whitacre. early light - carolyn bremer. the crosley march - henry fillmore (edited by robert e. foster). and...this year we actually have our own group ensembles...so the woodwind ensemble is Sarabande and Gigue by Corelli. Quote
Fortisimo Posted January 20, 2007 Posted January 20, 2007 I dunno what we're doing at UIL, but to open our next concert the first band is going to play (just brass and percussion, of course) Fanfare for the Comman Man. I can't wait. Quote
Claritone Posted January 20, 2007 Posted January 20, 2007 Washington Grays The Engulfed Cathedral Jai ete au bal Yup. Quote
MartinHorn Posted January 20, 2007 Posted January 20, 2007 We're also looking at O Magnum Mysterium (please correct me I think the piece name isn't right) Quote
ClaireAnnette07 Posted January 21, 2007 Posted January 21, 2007 We were going to play "Fairest of the Fair" for our march, but I think our director decided on "Emblem of Unity" (blechh) as our march instead. I wouldn't know, because I wasn't at school yesterday when he announced it. We're also playing "October" and "Balkanya" (yay for my 4 measure clarinet solo!) Quote
Shiloh Phoenix Posted January 21, 2007 Posted January 21, 2007 ha. We sightread that march for our middle school cluster concert. Very tough for a middle school piece. About on par for high school. we're playing(1st band at Richland): Shastakovich: Symphony No.5 Finale Persichetti: Symphony for Band(muted tuba solos? heck YES!) Hindemith: March from Symphonic Metamorphoses I like our program. It's loud and minor. Quote
Trumpeter07 Posted January 21, 2007 Posted January 21, 2007 The Cedar Park High School Wind Ensemble is playing: The Stars and Stripes Forever. Molly on the Shore by Granger and Trittico (By far the coolest song i've ever played in concert band) Quote

I really love that march. We played the orchestra version in region orchestra my 8th grade year. It's difficult, especially when you learn it in 2 days! As for the Leander Wind Ensemble, we're playing Symphony #2 by Ticheli Our march is Rolling Thunder by Henry Fillmore (awesome but INSANE!) Molly on the Shore An interesting line up... I really didn't like Symphony #2 when we first got it but now it's growing on me... Quote
actualgirltrombone Posted January 22, 2007 Posted January 22, 2007 Georgetown Wind Symphony is playing Armenian Dances - Alfred Reed Noisy Wheels of Joy - E W Marche Hongroise from the Damnation of Faust - Berlioz Cedar Park's second band is also playing Armenian Dances... I love it so far. We're also playing Irish Tune from County Derry by Grainger and Entry of the Gladiators by Fucik for our march. Darned low brass runs in the march.... we'd better get it together Quote
bandtheaternerd00 Posted January 22, 2007 Posted January 22, 2007 I really love that march. We played the orchestra version in region orchestra my 8th grade year. It's difficult, especially when you learn it in 2 days! As for the Leander Wind Ensemble, we're playing Either Symphony #2 by Ticheli or Rocky Point Holiday (don't know the composer). Im really hoping Rocky Point... our march is Rolling Thunder by Henry Fillmore (awesome but INSANE!) Our third is TBA. Ron Nelson is the composer for Rocky Point...we played it my freshman year...its soo awesome... The Woodlands College Park Wind Ensemble will be performing Molly on the Shore--Percy Grainger La Procession du Roccio--Joaquin Turina/Arr. Alfred Reed March, Op. 99-- Sergei Prokofieff Should be interesting Quote
