My band[Donna] is playing that, Rolling Thunder and i'm not sure but last i heard Lux Arumque, but that was a while back. We sight read Trittico a while back and it was bitchin'. I figure that it was because the whole Cadets doing Symphonic Movement sorta put the Nehybel idea in our director's head- which, by the way, I have absolutely no objection to. Quote
G'townPIT Posted January 23, 2007 Posted January 23, 2007 Quote Cedar Park's second band is also playing Armenian Dances... I love it so far. sweet, it has a contra-bassoon part, and i happen to have hook-ups on borrowing a contra. Score! Quote

actualgirltrombone Posted January 25, 2007 Posted January 25, 2007 That is so amazingly amazing and I have much more respect for them this year, rather than the bunny thing last year. Quote

bored2damax Posted February 4, 2007 Author Posted February 4, 2007 Well i think we have our third piece. im not sure yet if it is the third piece but according to a woodwind player, they sightread southern harmony during their sectional. So if that is true then our the songs we are playing for UIL are: Marche Militaire Francaise by Camille Saint-Saens Overture to Colas Breugnon by Dmitri Kabalevsky Southern Harmony by Donald Grantham (i think he is the composer not sure though if he is the composer. Also this is one of the rental pieces in the UIL list according to rbcmusic.com). Quote
trumpetman1288 Posted February 5, 2007 Posted February 5, 2007 We are playing... Eagle Squadron March- Filmore (not too fond of it) Balkanya- Van der Roost (meh...at least it's better than the march) Paris Sketches- Ellerby (approx. 15 minutes of sweetness that makes up for the other two) If it weren't for Paris Sketches, I would hate our program entirely. The march isn't too bad, but certainly not one of my favorite, after having played Op. 99 last year and the Circus Bee the year before that. Balkanya just doesn't do much for me, but the parts are somewhat fun to play. Just wish us well on Paris Sketches because it is VERY mentally draining. Quote
bored2damax Posted February 5, 2007 Author Posted February 5, 2007 Well so far this year, i have never heard of any of this piece. so i tried to find a recording of Colas Breugnon Overture, it sounds really cool if played at a fast tempo. The the marche is pretty cool after playing it for our winter concert, just somewhat slower than i thought. I dont know anything about southern harmony at all. anyone out there have any information??? Quote

But to get to the point of my post, if your orchestra were playing the fourth movement, I would make the drive out to your high school to listen to it. Mvt 4 is freaking BA. I played Midway March in Middle school. I love the clarinet parts. I actually have a recording of me playing the clarinet soli in the beginning. Quote
Higgins Posted February 6, 2007 Posted February 6, 2007 Westwood's second band is playing: His Honor - Fillmore (fun march, nice and fast, the way I like it) Early Light - Bremer (it's a happy sort of song, good euph part so I like it) Watchman, Tell Us of the Night - Camphouse (11 or so minutes of awesome, slow, but sounds amazing) What the first band is playing escapes me EDIT: I lied, we're not playing any Vaughan Williams =X Quote
bossman Posted February 6, 2007 Posted February 6, 2007 Metamorphisis(excuse my spelling) Overture to Candide Thats a little taste of Westfield Quote
pianomusicman89 Posted February 7, 2007 Posted February 7, 2007 we're playing a difficult line up this year and im actually excited/worried about it. we're playing (as far as I know): Dionysiaques- Florrent Schmitt In Wartime- Del Tredici (not sure bout the march) yikes!! Quote
chickora Posted February 7, 2007 Posted February 7, 2007 Blue Shades has been added to our list. We still don't know the name of our March yet. It's undecided. Quote

Yea, our band director played a recording of it earlier this year and said we might do it for our last concert, then changed his mind the day after. Needless to say, I was crushed, I've been in love with that piece ever since 1999 Santa Clara Vanguard. Quote

It shall be glorious. Whenever we decide to play the piece in a concert...probably in May, I'm guessing. Quote
