Back when it was still held in Waco... When it was a 4A/2A/1A year, the 2A's and 1A's had state at Waco ISD with the 4A's at Floyd Casey here in Waco. During a 5A/3A year, 3A's went to Waco ISD and 5A's to the Case. I like the format now with the days staggered. As a band director, if I don't have a band there, it's nice to be able to see 2 or so days of great bands from this state.

Speaking of State....

I wish it was on a Saturday instead of a Monday/Tuesday.

Right on!! I was ready to jump out of my skin at work during State 2006. I skipped classes just to see the first block and I was gone for the majority of Prelims because of work. The Monday/Tuesday schedule just has an odd feel to it, like it should be more liberating than it already is to be there instead of work and school.

The State Championships were held at the Baylor Stadium in Waco up until the 2002 season. But after the unfortunate events (weather) that took place at 5A State that year, the UIL decided to move the competition to an indoor venue starting in 2003. I would love to see State be rotated, but the UIL might be a bit hesitant on moving the event to an outdoor venue after what happened.

the new cowboys stadium will have a retracktable roof, so does houston's reliant stadium... so if its nice out they can march in the elements, and if its bad they close the roof and play inside...

although i`d luv to see area every year and not have a short marching season for the off-years [which will be my senior year "( ], i feel like it wouldn`t be as special. it just means more to me that we make it to state and everything if i only get a shot or two at it. that`s my two cents")

*drum roles*

Megan's Opinion on this Subject.

Every band contemplates this. State years are indeed fun. I enjoy them more than nonstate years, but each state year my grades suffer. This could possibly be due to the fact that you are tired all the time. People do tend to care more during state years.

Then again, state years are just so stressing..and you get sad if you don't even make it to state.. Uuggh, well, that's my thing.

Well, I'm sorry, but I care about my future in college rather than the present state years.

Thus meaning, I want good grades and since my grades are indirectly porportional to how busy the marching season is. In other words, the more activity marching band has on the kids, the less time I have to work on school stuff, soo grades drop.

I could turn this into some porpotional equation, but I rather not.

All to say, I care about college more than state. Sorry you nerds.

I actually have better grades during marching season.

For me, I don't.

Not at all. I haven't come more close to failing classes as I do for when its marching season. What's funny is that's the time when you want to pass your classes..

I'm happy with the every other year plan. I probably wouldn't feel the same if State wasn't my senior year, but oh well.

Also I prefer BOA to UIL anyways and my band goes to the San Antonio Super Rgeional every year so it doesn't really matter to me if it's a state year.

And lastly I hope it stays in San Antonio. I live in a suburb of Dallas where the staduim would only be a half hour away. Then I wouldn't get to miss nearly as much school. Also on state years we wouldn't get to go to San Antonio BOA most likely if we made state.
