Kill them. Honestly, hand them over to your band directors, if they still won't cooperate, the directors can decide to kick them out.

Or..

Be released from the band as what Mr. Stein would say.

But most likely, the directors know best.

I also find it funny how basically all the answers to peoples' problems are go to the directors.

well i honestly believe that if there's a problem within the band program then the leadership should be able to take care of the situation...which is why they are there. It may make sense to just get rid of them but it's not cool to try to throw away your problems. I mean there's a reason why they are in band...so u gotta deal with them...and they may not cooperate but there has to be something u can do in order to make the situation better.

even if u want to kick someone out of band...you jus can't be like "hey you...we are kickin u out"...it's not like band is a clubhouse or something. You can't really just kick someone out...at least i don't think. I've never seen it done at Westfield.

If you truly believe they don't belong in the band program, you and the leadership need the make the band directors believe that this person being in band program is not the best thing for the program, because I know my directors would have a hard time kicking anyone out.

yaa i got some stuff. our section leader thinks that im too "pushy" to be a section leader just cuz i expect everything to be as perfect as possible and im not push over like he was.

on a wide scale thing our band is soo behind for some reason we're having problems with people not playing emotionally and melotically.

you can never be to pushy... but you cant tell upperclassmen what to do, even if you are right...i have put many underclassmen in there place because they were telling people what to do... in my section, i made a rule that you can only talk if you had marched in the alamo dome for state...

So once you march a year, you are perfect? Ok...

Heh, I know our directors have no issue with that. You can be the best player in the band and you can be 'released' from band.

Our directors don't put up with kids who act up.

"Band is a priviledge, not a right."

However, leadership at our school is to individually control sections because band directors can't. They are not allowed to discipline the kids nor are they allowed to discuss with them. If they have problems with a student, they HAVE to talk to a band director. In other words, they can't take matters in their own hands.

i made that a rule this year because the 10th graders (our biggest class) where all telling the freshmen what to do...then some punk tried to correct me. i yelled at his Asz and he cried(which was kinda funny if it were true, the part about him crying)...so i made that rule...

1 year under ur belt and you think you got it all figured out. (SIKE!)

But after my one year i was pretty ok. I hate it when u get a section leader who cant really help you...that sux.

My freshman year i had a good section leader though.

sometimes i really dont think it matters what class u in...but only in specific circumstances...

some sophomores can be smarter than the upperclassmen we already have...

my "section leader" this year was somewhat horrible at marching and I and this sophomore marcher were able to manage our section better than him...

so it all depends...u can weed out the smart ones from the dumb ones...

everyone gets their say so though.

that's a strong point in my campaign this year.

Do you think everyone should have a say so???

i do...

i think in order for a band to be at it's possible best...then everybody's opinion should be taken into account...because some things may work but they can't be put into action unless it's heard.

i think it's all about how u approach the situation. if you come at them seriously and give them positive reasons behind why u want to do it then they MIGHT give you one ear to listen to. Trust me...since it's going to b my senior year in band next year...i want to do a LOT that will help make our marching year fun and yet productive. So i gotta come right or go home...or however the saying goes...i dunno. <_<

I dont think our staff is positive enough, and their negativity is weighing down one our success. If u have someone yelling at u constantly, and bringing you down, instead of helping you fix your problems, and giving you at least a little praise and encouragement then most people would not want to work hard and continue, to give it their all, and that is enough to make our band suffer as a whole during competitions (not getting placements we "think" we deserve).
