I'm not going with my solo because I got it a month before the thing and didn't have a private lesson on it until the week before, so I just played it.

However, I'll be going with my quartet.

me! with my ensemble. We are playing Eine Kleine Nachtmusik by Mozart..its a familiar tune that everyone should kno..but i got a one on the mozart concerto for clarinet mvt.1, that being my first clarinet solo for a S&E contest ever lol

My ensemble didn't advance (we had so many changes done to it at the last minute), but I'm trying out for UT band that day. I think I will play my region music, just because I don't really have the time to learn something completely new.

I might just play the Brahms solo I had last year. Any words of advice on college auditions?

Oh, and congrats to all that advanced to state. The "Eine Kleine Nachmusik" ensemble or whatever it was called sounded awesome, by the way

I should be going, but, alas, I am not. I thought I only had to play 2 of the four movements of my Sonata, but it turns out I had to play all four :o . I found this out the Wed before the contest, so all my memorizing energy went to learning-the-last-two-movements energy. Oh well, there's always next year.

Menuetto and Presto by W.A Mozart

We were also doing Sax Lix by Arthur Frackenpohl

But it turned out one of our players became inelegible (sp?)

So i had a back up ensemble, I also was working on a solo, but i decided not to do it do to other things i had to get done and there wasent enough time (Jazz Band and all)

Unfortunately, the UT School of Music website doesn't list any audition requirements for clarinet (it does for bassoon, flute, and oboe though). The requirements for the other woodwinds vary, but I would recommend that you prepare all of your major scales, your full range chromatic scale, and at least 3 movements (probably two solo selections and one etude) with contrasting style.

While you work on that, I would get in contact with the music school and find out if there are any specifications for incoming freshman clarinet auditions. They'll most likely send out a packet with the necessary information in the not too distant future, but it can't hurt to show them that you have some initiative.

Work on everything including style and dynamic contrast, but put your focus on tone, technical proficiency, and intonation. Musicianship is obviously important, but it will hardly be noticed if the auditionee is struggling with notes and rhythms; whereas the first three can definitely have a negative impact on the impression you give if they're lackluster. Go well-prepared and I'm sure you'll do just fine.

I'm going on a solo. I'm not exactly sure what I'm going to play. I have to talk to my lessons teacher about it. Him and I are wanting me to do something different for state but if I don't find something, I'll have to play Hunter's Moon, the solo I made state on.

I love TSSEC, not only preforming, but i like hosting the percussion part at CHS

I love TSSEC because of the hotel stays and chatting at 2 AM with some hot drumline girls in the other side of the door that separates the rooms.

I love TSSEC.

Woo me too! Do all the band people like stay in the same hotel?

Dude, they are scattered everywhere. I am lucky to have stayed in the embassy suites for the last 2 years, and last year I found an unexpected surprise in neighbors! :)

haha, thats why you should always interact with everyone around you. Its great to meet people who are there for the same thing, x22500
