So almost everyone in Region 12 got straight ones. Well all the known bands from my region have. Judson, Seguin, Churchhill, Reagan, Macarthur, Roosevelt, and some other bands. I cant remember but the Sightreading piece was hard. Anybody else had UIL today?

The top 3 bands at Westwood got straight 1s, the bottom band got 2s on stage and 1s in sightreading. I think that's the best we've done as a school since I've been here.

I think it depends on whether you're 4A, 5A, etc. and whether you're varsity or non-varsity.

Anyway, both bands at Southwest High School from Fort Worth got sweepstakes. The Wind Ensemble is still working on recordings to send in for State. The 4A Varsity sightreading piece was easy.

If you are under the same classification and level (varsity, non-varsity, sub non-vasity, etc), then yes, you have the same sightreading. All 5A first bands have the same, 5A second bands, 4A first bands, etc, etc.

If I am not mistaking, though, I THINK (perhaps Xenon can clarify for me?) that 5A second band and 4A first band have the same sightreading, along with 5A third band/4A second band/3A first band, and so on down the chain. I am not sure what level each group reads at for sure, but I know 5A first band typically reads level 6, and I think it would be a fair assumption that the level goes down for each respective group, but I do not know the lowest level for high school.

We managed sweepstakes over here, but I will say...that sightreading this year was just plain hard...quite a few of us in the trumpet section just ignored the general explanation and counted the syncapated stuff the whole time.

Trumpetman, non-varsity bands read two levels lower than the varsity band. 5A reads level 6, 4A reads level 5, 3A reads level 4, 2A reads level 3, 1A reads level 2. CCC Middle Schools read level 2, CC Middle Schools read level 1. So you can do the math on non-varsity groups. I believe a SUB Non-varsity group reads three levels lower than the varsity group. Not too sure on that though. Positive that non-varsity groups read two levels lower!!

Top band Leander got Straight 1's on stage and 112 in Sightreading. I thought the sightreading piece was easy, but that's probably cause I didn't have many hard rythms to speak of... ^_^

That would make sense. I wasn't sure about it because the year we moved up to 5A, the director of our second band was kind of worried because his didn't think his group was ready to read the same type of stuff that our first band was doing for sightreading. So based off that, I assumed it was only one level.

Yeah, and the bottom band could have done better, but they have like 20-something flutes and 25+ trumpets, so the balance is so out of whack that they really never had a fair chance.

I think I heard my band director say that sub-non-varsity reads the same as non-varsity. I may have misunderstood though.

Yea, one of the judges wrote that the bass line was covered up the majority of the time. Woops, 25 trumpets+25 flutes vs. 3 euphoniums, 3 tubas, and like 4 or 5 trombones.

Ive never seen a band who "made" a 3 on stage and then make straight 1s on sightreading

Don't remember who, but I know that two bands over in region 28 got a 2 on stage but received a 1 in sightreading. If I remember correctly, it was Los Fresnos (5A) and Weslaco East (4A). The only reason I guess I bothered to remember was because it is rather strange to do better on sightreading than on stage.

Straight 2's Both On Stage and Sight Reading, im rather disappointed but life goes on, i don't know why but the recording sounds great enough to be straight 1's on stage, but i guess the judges thought different

all well
