bandnerdbea Posted April 13, 2007 Posted April 13, 2007 Varsity Band from Spring High: Sweepstakes! YAY! luv bea Quote
TRtrumpet Posted April 13, 2007 Posted April 13, 2007 We got 112, which is the best we've done in about 15 years. WHOO! and were just going to go up from here. Quote
barisaxy08 Posted April 13, 2007 Posted April 13, 2007 Westfield High School Varisty (3rd band) earned straight ones in on-stage and sight-reading....isn't that sweepstakes??? Westfield High School Concert (2nd band) will be performing today so wish them luck! Quote
manuel_pablo Posted April 13, 2007 Posted April 13, 2007 We performed today, the Westfield 2nd band, and we got sweepstakes with 1+'s too It was our last performance with the best teacher and nicest person I have ever had/met. Hopefully, he'll come back and conduct Overture to Candide when we perform it for the Spring Concert. It won't be the last I'll see of Mr. Cooper though, since I'll try to head over to Dekaney as much as time allows me next year. Quote
crazyjakeup Posted April 13, 2007 Posted April 13, 2007 thats the most popular winter guard song in the world Quote

bossman Posted April 16, 2007 Posted April 16, 2007 lol, i wont i was just making a point that there are alot of bands in this forum with a history of excellence. Quote
ClarinetGlissandoInBlue Posted April 29, 2007 Posted April 29, 2007 Pasadena Memorial the first perfect year in the three years of existence. the first of many to come. we had straight ones in marching, symphony concert, symphony sight reading, then our own concert and sight reading. Quote
ClaireAnnette07 Posted April 30, 2007 Posted April 30, 2007 112 in stage--overall score of 1 332 in sightreading--overall score of 3 Okay, so it was our first year in 5A...and the sightreading was ridiculously hard. Considering we're still transitioning from a 4A Varsity band to a 5A Varsity band, we were ecstatic to even get a one on stage Quote
xraidercutiex Posted April 30, 2007 Posted April 30, 2007 NSUMusician said: Trumpetman, non-varsity bands read two levels lower than the varsity band. 5A reads level 6, 4A reads level 5, 3A reads level 4, 2A reads level 3, 1A reads level 2. CCC Middle Schools read level 2, CC Middle Schools read level 1. So you can do the math on non-varsity groups. I believe a SUB Non-varsity group reads three levels lower than the varsity group. Not too sure on that though. Positive that non-varsity groups read two levels lower!! Non-Varsity and SUB Non-Varsity read the same level. At least for 5-A. Quote
bossman Posted April 30, 2007 Posted April 30, 2007 i feel sorry for anyone who decided to go 5-a this year, sightreading was a pain. Quote
Dontforgettobreathe Posted April 30, 2007 Posted April 30, 2007 I think sightreading is gonna get a bashing this year, Reflections? or w/e I think theres gonna be a lot of complaints Quote
MartinHorn Posted April 30, 2007 Posted April 30, 2007 I think the sightreading was fair, it just shocked a lot of people because they weren't used to reading something that hard. A lot of bands play challenging music every year, I believe UIL decided to step up the sightreading music too. I thinks its a welcome challenge, and I think UIL will continue with hard sightreading pieces. Quote

I must say, in my four years of high school band, this is our first THREE ever..we didnt even get a three in marching, and that's our weaker season. Oh well..Dallas this weekend! I can't wait =) Quote
crazyjakeup Posted May 1, 2007 Posted May 1, 2007 hey i can see downtown dallas from my roof... have fun Quote
ClarinetGlissandoInBlue Posted May 1, 2007 Posted May 1, 2007 really????? i and bunch of the band thought it was really easy. we actually liked it (more than the ones from the past two or three years anyway). at least it had some potentially cool parts. mind you, being the best song of a bunch of crap songs, Reflections is still a crappy song. (directed toward everyone) Quote
barisaxy08 Posted May 1, 2007 Posted May 1, 2007 sightreading the piece gave me bit of a headache...since i had to figure out the rhythms quickly and make sure i was playing it right...i refused to be the one that missed a note and mess up. Quote
bossman Posted May 1, 2007 Posted May 1, 2007 UIL, good move. If there's anyone one here that's affiliated with the UIL, i think we actuall like the Harder Sightreading. Quote

If there's anyone one here that's affiliated with the UIL, i think we actuall like the Harder Sightreading. nah, we don't like the HARDER sightreading. we just want REAL sightreading. let us play REAL songs that actually make sense and don't suck. right now, the sightreading pieces are written strictly for contest sight-reading. they are trying to make us mess up. thus the songs we play are complete crap. all they have to do is compose real pieces for sightreading (since the purpose of original songs is to prevent people playing the songs before) Quote
barisaxy08 Posted May 2, 2007 Posted May 2, 2007 well...sight-reading songs aren't suppose to make sense and are suppose to suck...sooo there ya go. Quote
