GuitarJoe Posted September 7, 2007 Posted September 7, 2007 When i was in uta's marching band, our rehearsals were from 12-2 (something like that), and i remember that if you stood in one spot for too long your shoes would start to stick to the turf. some guy said the field temp was around 115-120, but i'm not sure if he was being serious or not. i got a nice tan tho. Xenon Posted September 7, 2007 Posted September 7, 2007 I only ever practiced on turf, so I don't have anything to compare against, but yes it could get pretty hot at times. Quote
mbui Posted September 7, 2007 Posted September 7, 2007 During my sophomore year of high school, it was so hot that the cymbal section made eggs on a pair of cymbals. We let it sit out on the field for about a half an hour. We were gonna go for a cinnamon roll (from those Pillsbury tubes) but we didn't think it'd go over that well. By the way, the eggs turned out great. Quote

Count 1 - I'm not sure about that Count 2 - Definitely not. Akins is in south Austin and Berkner (where Jed teched) is in Richardson. Quote
bossman Posted September 8, 2007 Posted September 8, 2007 i've always been on concrete fields in high school, and if we weren't on concrete it was astro turf. they both have pros and cons. Quote
gavinrh Posted September 9, 2007 Posted September 9, 2007 concrete screws up knees. Richland marches almost exclusively on concrete. Quote
borchnork Posted September 11, 2007 Posted September 11, 2007 Centennial as well. there's now some explanation for why our whole band has or is developing knee problems. Quote
the terminator Posted September 11, 2007 Posted September 11, 2007 thank god we don't, our director makes sure we don't Quote
BassoonPadwan Posted September 11, 2007 Posted September 11, 2007 We don't march on anything BUT concrete. Except for performances. It's my last year in marching band, and I'm fine right now........ I guess I'm one of the lucky ones that made it out okay. Quote
bbcheez Posted September 15, 2007 Posted September 15, 2007 our practice field is actually grass. but the ground is really uneven so every once in a while you find yourself going down an inch or two while marching. Quote

There's a bunch of GIANT ditches that could be potentially worse for you than marching on cement. Quote
bossman Posted September 17, 2007 Posted September 17, 2007 I remember when i was @ one school in Missouri they had this huge hole. And i was back marching at 208. Long story short the hole gave me a hug, and my contra and i were drenched in mud. Quote

Albeit you guys were performing a stand tune at the game...the band sounded great! Quote

marcomac29 Posted September 19, 2007 Posted September 19, 2007 Somehow my band director got the schedule to Arlington regional... All that i remember is that we (mansfield) go at like.... 9 AM!!!!! it sucks but i remember that, and that Frisco is in the last block, but L. D. Bell is the last to perform. Quote
bossman Posted September 20, 2007 Posted September 20, 2007 BTW: Here's some trivia for you. UT Arlington hasn't had a football team in like an ice age. Quote

bonepit06-07 Posted September 22, 2007 Posted September 22, 2007 Connally was orginally signed up but we pulled out since it was the same day as SAT'S Quote
radchad Posted September 26, 2007 Posted September 26, 2007 Hebron wasn't that good. The whole DDR dance part made it evident that they spent a LOT of time on that opposed to other important parts of the show. It was cool, but not phenominal. >_> I can't wait to see the bands this year. I believe LD Bell is going. I heard they earned the privelage of performing last due to the win last year. Does anyone know if Reagan is going this year? I know they dropped out of it last year. Others that I would think would be there(who knows if they are): Haltom. Richland. Keller. Bowie. Marcus. Boswell. Quote
