I'm for it too. We were talking about running a lap next year before practice, and doing them for punishment or whatver and alot of people got mad. In my opinion, at our age you should AT LEAST be able to do a lap. That isn't to much to ask for in my opinion.

our percussion does a lap after practice everyday, it's their ritual.

section leaders can assign laps and stuff, but we're pretty cool about it. it takes some hugh screw-up to deserve laps.

last year, we gave out laps if you couldnt play your music memorized by a set date. it was done by the WW section leader though, not the director

i like to run... sometimes when it was "scorching hot" i would wear pants and a hoodie and run 2 laps during every water break... but my director told me to stop one day cuz 3 people passed during practice and one girl went to hospital... our band is full of wimps(WWs mainly)

Have a unique perspective being in the army. Wouldnt do it as punishment for mental mistakes. For someone slacking sure.... but if you assign it you run/push right there with them. Lets them know they are part of the team and you are right there with them. Good leaders would anyway.

i think running is a great way to put people in their place without causing damage to them...and it makes them "healthier" i guess. Push-ups aren't bad either.

back when i was growing up...we got whooped while we ran laps...you kids these days got it easy.

Ours is too, but band isn't exactly the most physical thing (I know some your bands may be, and DCI deffiently is, but here it's not). I still think laps and pushups are a good idea. But I like running though, and I'm in cross country and track so it's not a big deal to me.

We run, and do push up. This one time the french horn section was horrible at a rehersal. They stood on the 50 while everyone else ran 2 laps..... <_<. This fresheman last year did something really bad and our director made all of leadership and that freshmen run 2 laps and the rest of the band had to jumping jacks until every person was back in the block, it was crucial. Our director loves to torture us with jumping jacks.

the best exercises for band, i think, are jumping jacks(at least 3 mins Straight) push ups (to hold your horn), running (for obvios reasons), and sit-ups(so you can blow with intense air)

I love pushups and laps as discipline.

I have noticed that bands who lack enforced discipline are immature on and off the field.

Its a good thing our directors strictly enforce discipline and support it 100%

It pays off for our band in the long run.

I disagree. We lack enforced discipline, yet we don't really have a problem with immaturity. I wish we were allowed to use it, but we are fine without it.

well some band programs require some discipline...and some don't

it's kinda like a teacher with her classes...

some periods don't need to be disciplined to get their work done but some do...ya know?

so yeah...
