TRtrumpet Posted July 23, 2005 Author Posted July 23, 2005 when you practice mark time in the luch line Quote
Sockercon Posted July 29, 2005 Posted July 29, 2005 When you hear music and start marking time. -When you walk behind someone and you're in step with them. -When you try to guess the tempo of your favorite song. -When all your friends are in band. -When you point out key changes and dynamics while listening to the radio. -When every guy/girl you're interested in is in band. -When you like wearing your uniform. -When people ask you about your social life and you say, "Oh, you mean my horn?" -When you practice your instrument more than you talk to your dog. -When being mauled by a drum is a normal part of life. -When people worry when they see you without our instrument. -When "armed guard" means girl with pole and saber instead of guy with gun. -When band camp is FUN!!!!!!!!!!!!! -When you respond to "Hey, band nerd". -When you remember the order of flats and sharps more easily than your name. -When you are alone, you suffocate cause there's no one telling you when to breathe. -When slides feel normal. -When your instrument has a name. -When you remember your instrument's birthday, and forget your mom's. -When making a diagonal is your biggest accomplishment of the day. -When backwards marching no longer reminds you of ballet. -When you give your instrument a birthday party. -When you can make brown shoes look white. -When your uniform fits. -When white feathers become a fashion "do". -When you see your section more than you see your family. -When everyone wants to kill the other football team...and you want to kill the other band. -When you walk you automatically start with your left foot. -When you think evening practices should last a half an hour longer. -When you accidently call your band director "Dad". -When you CAN sight-read. -When you can put on your uniform in less than two minutes. -When reeds taste good. -When you actually understand your band director. -When you think your plume is alive. -When you don't mind changing on the bus. -When marking time is your favorite form of exercise. -When you have a neck strap tan line. -When you subconsciously start practicing with a pencil. -When numbers past 8 aren't important. -When you still have concert music from 3 years ago memorized. -When you roll-step through the cafeteria to avoid spilling your lunch. -When you'd rather practice than read this list. -When letters past G aren't important. -When you're sitting alone in a room and you find yourself humming music from four years ago. ClaireAnnette07 Posted July 30, 2005 Posted July 30, 2005 These are all MY personal "You know when your a band nerd when.." moments -When you dream of marching your high school's show and have the exact spots hit right (I did that at the end of last year's marching season) -When you come up with a name for your instrument (Mine is Claire Annette..gee, who would have guessed?) -When you and your friends walk in step down the school hallway -When you roll step to get through a puddle of water, praying it won't get your feet wet (which I did..and it worked!) -When you come up with key words in relation to the current year's marching show to ask simple questions (for example: "Zarabanda?" meant "What time is it?" or "How much longer until the end of practice?" my freshman year, when our show was "The Music of Karl Jenkins") -When someone else can come up to you and ask, "Hey, you got any 3.5's?" and you know exactly what they're talking about -When you know who "Herman" is (Almost everyone went to the one junior high we have in our city, and Herman was our jr.high band director's tuner..he was replaced my 8th grade year with Herman the Second) -When you realize that when your band director doesn't repeat everything three times (ex: "Don't forget black socks!" x3), you forget what he said to bring or to do -When you have a strange looking tanline from where your leg and your socks meet (I'm a clarinet player,so I don't have the neckstrap thing going on) -When you know the few basic rules of the CHS Band: Don't speak unless spoken to, never sit where the upperclassmen sit (we tend to sit according to our chair arrangement last year, lol) when you're an underclassmen, never move another clarinet player's instrument in the cubbyhole so you can put YOURS there and to never ever play another person's instrument unless asked to directly from the band director -When you have to plan your StuCo meetings around band practices (I'm StuCo VP, so I can do that! Hahaha) -When you have a 'parking spot' in the pick-up area by the band hall (there are no real parking spots,FYI) Quote
TX Suh-nare Posted July 30, 2005 Posted July 30, 2005 When you PROUDLY walked all the way to school with your instrument (More power to my drumming brothers) IN THE RAIN when you DID have the option of a ride. And if these are true, I'm a band FREAK! AAAAUUUUUUGGGGHHH! Quote
