They had a off year at area last time around, but I think they probably should have made it and will be a big threat this year. Westlake will be a good preview... I totally agree with that... They're getting good QUICK! They're DEFINANTLY a contender... and honestly i don't think ANY of the spots should be called 'set' because as stated before ANYTHING can happen. All we can do is wait... Also, I believe another precurser contest could be The Lonestar Preview in the Woodlands... imbetween Friendswood and Hendrickson. It'll be quite the show Quote
Fata1 Posted October 13, 2007 Posted October 13, 2007 Tomorrow's the Aledo competition. I think the thing I'm looking forward to about it is finding out how we compare to Birdville. Sadly, I doubt we'll pull through. In fact, I don't exactly have a lot of confidence in us right now. Dead nervous too. Quote
Donezo Posted October 14, 2007 Posted October 14, 2007 While the Plano East contest is still in progress, sources who saw prelims tell me McKinney Boyd needs to be cosidered as a serious contender in Area B. Quote

Ok Just so dickinson can let out its terrible secret our directors were testing a strategy out (musically) due to the dome, in that we backed down our volume obviously it backfired with extremely unpleasant results but that did not come close to stifling our seasoned or incoming players Dickinson IS ready for state Dickinson IS worthy of making finals Dickinson WILL uphold our tradition (sorry for the cocky attitude but it just had to be said) Fun Filled Fact: from 89-91 (3 yrs) Dicksinson won state we were a huge factor in the decision to make state only every other year To make simple Dickinson Has always and Will always make their name known Quote
riverfan Posted October 14, 2007 Posted October 14, 2007 STOP THE PRESSES! JUAN SEGUIN IS YET ANOTHER GOOD AREA B BAND. THEY DID AWESOME AT ALEDO LAST NIGHT, EVEN BEATING BOTH SOUTHWEST AND BIRDVILLE IN PRELIMS. Doesn't get any easier, does it, Area B... Oh Yeah, a lot a region 7 bands were there last night, and think they have the great chance to get a lot of 1's at UIL. There may be a chance for 5 area B state bands yet... Quote
Donezo Posted October 14, 2007 Posted October 14, 2007 Wow! Perhaps Seguin can repeat this year after all. So after this weekend, I'm still feeling Sherman, The Colony, and Aledo as the top 3 in Area B. The last spot (or maybe two. Who knows?) is between Birdville, McKinney Boyd, Seguin, Centennial, and Southwest. At this point I'd probably say: 4. Birdville 5. Seguin 6. Mckinney Boyd 7. Centennial 8. Southwest Only two more weeks until area! Eek! I should be able to provide a video of Poteet at Plano East fairly soon (preferably prelims. I hear the finals performance was lacking in energy.) Quote
ddmwingz Posted October 14, 2007 Posted October 14, 2007 man... the area B contest is gonna be an even nastier contest than i thought. cant wait. Quote
Donezo Posted October 14, 2007 Posted October 14, 2007 Plano East and TOC also teach us that we should all be very happy Wylie is now 5A. Quote
riverfan Posted October 14, 2007 Posted October 14, 2007 But that is not to say that Southwest and Birdville did not do well, I personally think that Southwest was undeservedly not placed in finals( I think they got 11th in Prelims). Southwest was excellent musically, something which may be a deciding factor in the area contest. If they could only march better, who knows? My personal rankings are: 1. Sherman 2+3. Aledo or The Colony 4. Juan Seguin 5. Between Birdville, Centennial, and Southwest (That's the real battle) Quote
borchnork Posted October 14, 2007 Posted October 14, 2007 I'm not quite sure about Juan Seguin. Honestly, I think we can take top four now after our finals performance last night. And once we put our closer on the field (assuming we can nail it) I think top 3 is a very high possibility. I don't think any of the Area B bands except for us are attempting to march at 172-180. Boyd this year is doing a lot better. I think it's risky to be playing Down A Country Lane for their ballade (just like I feel Birdville's Grainger show is also a very risky idea). Boyd sounds much better than last year, but as for marching I can't say anything cus I haven't seen them from the stands. Quote
ddmwingz Posted October 14, 2007 Posted October 14, 2007 At this point id have to put the rankings for Area B in this order 1-Sherman 2-The Colony/Aledo 3-The Colony/Aledo 4-Centennial/Birdville 5-Centennial/Birdville/Seguin Quote
Donezo Posted October 14, 2007 Posted October 14, 2007 Indeed Boyd is doing much better. They very nearly beat Sherman in prelims at Plano East (though the margin was much wider in finals.) I hadn't been considering them before, but they will probably be a big player at Area B. Quote
jd2012 Posted October 14, 2007 Posted October 14, 2007 the three 4A bands in finals at Plano East placed as follows... 3. Poteet 7. Sherman 9. McKinney Boyd just for kicks North Lamar played Bell's 04 show "Blue" exactly the same except... at.... half tempo lol Quote
ddmwingz Posted October 14, 2007 Posted October 14, 2007 Check out this link. I believe it has all the 4a bands in area B http://uilforms.com/regions/2/AREA%20MARCH...-1A-2A%3D4A.pdf how many do u guys think will make ones off of that list? Quote

With lots of wishful thinking I'm going to say 19. Quote
Donezo Posted October 14, 2007 Posted October 14, 2007 Oooo, the Area B draw order. Looks like Centennial will be marching last in prelims (considering they make a 1 at region.) Quote
ddmwingz Posted October 14, 2007 Posted October 14, 2007 thats a good guess. based off of last year, i think 19 of those bands got 1's. i just hope all the same bands get 1s and a couple others add themselves to the mix Quote
SerialSleeper90 Posted October 14, 2007 Posted October 14, 2007 19! I've done some research (U.I.L.'s online organization skills doesnt help) and 19 made 1s last year and it wasnt even a state year. Hopefully more bands will trangress than digress and we'll surpass 20 to make area B just a tad bit easier. Quote
borchnork Posted October 14, 2007 Posted October 14, 2007 I do believe that Lake Dallas will get a 1. GOD LET THEM GET A ONE!!! wow... going last in prelims... that's a total first Quote
tassafar Posted October 15, 2007 Posted October 15, 2007 the terminator said: Who do you guys think will win? Can Poteet repeat, and pick the bands you think will make it I've heard rumors Poteet is 5A this year. Quote
BDAZdrummer Posted October 15, 2007 Posted October 15, 2007 we can all wish poteet was 5A but it wont come true for a while Quote
Donezo Posted October 15, 2007 Posted October 15, 2007 Probably never. Poteet's area is totally landlocked. Unless MISD realigns school areas, Poteet will stay 4A for the foreseeable future. Quote
