PlayOboe Posted September 9, 2007 Posted September 9, 2007 Now that we know where everyone is, here are the 2005 results as a point of reference. http://www.uil.utexas.edu/music/smbc_results2005.html Please note that Lopez and Wylie have since moved up to 5A. Quote
borchnork Posted September 10, 2007 Posted September 10, 2007 eeek... that's some tough competition. All those bands are amazing. Quote

Area C: Poteet JJ Pearce Waxahachie Alternate: Midlothian Ok I'm not saying you're wrong and I'm not trying to be cocky...but if Pearce *and* Waxahachie beat us (Heath) to advance to state...I would be a little upset (especially because Waxahachie's old director is now ours, it creates interesting drama ). I'm not cutting these bands down, they're both really really good bands, but last year we came sooo close to beating Pearce at Mesquite and we did beat Waxahachie at Duncanville that if both of them placed in front of us, this year would be a disappointment. Again, I haven't seen their shows this year and I'm not saying these bands don't deserve to go to state. I know they do...so no one freak out at me. I just want to be able to compete at a level as high as them. Quote

I just want to be able to compete at a level as high as them. I was reluctant to predict Waxahachie because of their low placing at Duncanville in '06. However, they just barely missed state finals two years ago and they advanced to the state level of the Honor Band competition this year. I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt for an off day at D-ville. Pearce was weak in '04 and '05, but they were really good last year. They made a great showing at Duncanville against other strong 4A competitors like Sherman, Birdville, Centennial, and Southwest. Pearce also advanced to the state level of the Honor Band competition. Heath is a young program, and I am very interested to see where you guys go this year. My very early predictions were simply based on history. I'll probably do this again in mid-October and things will be very, very different. Quote

borchnork Posted September 14, 2007 Posted September 14, 2007 our guard got their performance flags today. They're so pretty. And now we only have experienced members on the guard, we won't place 3 away this year. I'm expecting it to be awesome. Quote
MisterMan Posted September 14, 2007 Posted September 14, 2007 PlayOboe said: Actually, the McKinney schools are in Region 25 and Area B. They marched at the Region 3 contest in 06 due to some kind of scheduling conflict. WTF happened to Area E?! 6 bands made a 1?! That's crazy. So just for fun..........what I think could happen in each area. Area A: Fossil Ridge Azle Plainview Alternate: Frenship Area B: Birdville Sherman The Colony Aledo Alternate: Centennial Area C: Poteet JJ Pearce Waxahachie Alternate: Midlothian Area D: Connally Hendrickson New Braunfels Alternate: Dripping Springs Area E: Brenham Foster Alternate: Waller Area F: Friendswood Dickinson Alternate: Nederland Area G: Roma King Alternate: Gregory Portland I think those are reasonable estimates for numbers of spots per area. If this is the case, that means 19 bands at state marching contest..........and only 7 finalists. Yikes. And also, special thanks to MisterMan for the helpful lists! So how did you arrive at these predictions for each area? Quote
borchnork Posted September 15, 2007 Posted September 15, 2007 probably by past seasons and level of experience. Quote

bonepit06-07 Posted September 17, 2007 Posted September 17, 2007 Area D is pretty much set i think that its a no brainer Connally Hendrickon New Braunfels Quote
borchnork Posted September 18, 2007 Posted September 18, 2007 I think after the 29th, we'll have some idea as to Area B... Carrollton TOC is that day, and I think 5 or 6 of Area B's top bands are going to be there... it's a good way to make predictions. Quote
sntafetrmpt Posted September 18, 2007 Posted September 18, 2007 i dont think dickinson has it this year to make it past area. they seem to be going downhill. 2005 they were placed last place by 2 of the music judges. Quote

We're only going to the Aledo competition and I'm pretty sure none of the top bands from Area B are going to that. Quote
borchnork Posted September 19, 2007 Posted September 19, 2007 yah, I know CHS isn't. we have Carrollton and Little Elm... then UIL, Area and Hopefully STATE! Quote

I actually saw Dickinson's state prelims performance and I was very surprised by the two last place rankings. I was only able to watch the last two blocks of prelims and I thought Dickinson played better than at least three other bands I saw. Only goes to show how subjective music can be..... Anyway, an Area F upset is quite possible. I'm really curious about Nederland. They kind of came out of nowhere this year in the Honor Band competition. Perhaps they have a similar marching breakthrough up their sleeves. Quote
borchnork Posted September 24, 2007 Posted September 24, 2007 I think that Areas B, C and F could all see some upsets... but we won't know that for a while. Unfortunately, we have yet to play a football game against anybody that will be competing in our Area, so it's hard to judge where we are at. Quote
Bandmanio Posted September 25, 2007 Posted September 25, 2007 Xenon said: Canyon is awesome. A consistent 3A Finalist with a really nice sound that gets to take a stab at the 4A competition. The Canyon HS in Area D is New Braunfels Canyon, not the 3A Canyon up near Amarillo. New Braunfels Canyon has been to state before in 4A and should be a competitor again this year. Quote
sntafetrmpt Posted September 25, 2007 Posted September 25, 2007 how are most bands on learning their show? know all the sets? adding visuals yet? Quote
rhhsband Posted September 25, 2007 Posted September 25, 2007 We know all of our sets and are marching them all this Friday for the first time. We have added a couple visuals, but mainly right now we're cleaning drill. Quote
borchnork Posted September 26, 2007 Posted September 26, 2007 we just started learning the 4th mvmt. so we should be marching all of it by next week. Quote

sntafetrmpt Posted September 27, 2007 Posted September 27, 2007 i saw dickinson's show last week. they had the whole thing on the field. already had a few visuals added. one of my friends from there said they have added more visuals this week. Quote
bassclaristud Posted September 29, 2007 Posted September 29, 2007 Colony hasn't won state. 2000 - LD Bell 2002 - Duncanville 2004 - LD Bell 2006 - Marcus those were the state champs. The Colony however did place finals in 2000, and placed 5th or 6th Quote
borchnork Posted September 29, 2007 Posted September 29, 2007 well that's encouraging. we've started mvmt. 4! Quote
