andrhs Posted June 5, 2007 Posted June 5, 2007 i think it would be really sweet,if BOA decided to alternate cities that host nats... there is going to be a brand new Cowboys stadium, and i think it should be there.... there are bands that could make nat. finals but they dont get to go,so i say we give everyone a fair chance to be "finalists" instead of the same 500 bands that arent in TX that go like every year. I'd love for Nationals to be closer to home. It would make my trip to Indianapolis a lot less expensive!! However, it doesn't look like Grand Nationals will ever leave the city of Indianapolis. Why?? Consider the following: Bands of America Headquarters - Indianapolis Percussion Arts Society Headquarters - Indianapolis Lucas Oil Stadium, a state-of-the-art stadium that was designed with the acoustics of the marching arts in mind, will open next year in Indianapolis. The DCI World Championships will be the very first event held at Lucas Oil Stadium, which is unprecedented in the history of the Marching Arts. To top it all off, The DCI World Championships are guaranteed to be at Lucas Oil Stadium for the next 10 years. Indianapolis, whether we like it or not, is the Marching Arts Capitol of The World. Grand Nationals has always been able to attract a nice mix of talent from all across the Nation. Currently, there are only 14 bands from Indiana signed up for Grand Nationals. There are seven from Texas. There are more than 20 bands from Ohio signed up. Can you imagine how many bands from Texas would sign up for Nationals if it were in Dallas or San Antonio??? They'd have to rename Grand Nationals to the Super Ultra Mega Texas Regional because of all the bands that would sign up just to say, "Yeah, I've been to Nationals." The new stadium in Dallas is probably the most expensive structure ever created by man. My girlfriend's grandparents live in Arlington and they were NOT happy about the tax hike they had to endure just to get the new stadium built. I can't even imagine what it would cost to rent out the stadium for just three days. Making it up to Indianapolis for Grand Nationals is not as impossible as it seems. My total cost for my Grand Nationals trip in 2002 was $750, which included flights, meals, and four nights at the downtown Marriott (By the way, it was a fantastic hotel). Come to think of it, it was considerably less because of fundraising opportunities. There's no joking about how much effort it takes to coordinate going to an event like this. Most band boosters cringe just thinking about the daunting task of trying to get flights and hotel rooms for 250 band kids. However, it can be done. In a perfect world, Nationals would only be 500 miles away from me, instead of 1,200. I don't think it will ever change and frankly, I don't have a problem with it, but I'm all for entertaining the idea of moving Nationals to different parts of the country. Quote
crazyjakeup Posted June 5, 2007 Posted June 5, 2007 *tear* way to kill that idea ... oh well it was a nice 45 seconds of thought... Quote

I'm just presenting facts. Trust me, no one would be happier to have it in the state of Texas more than I would. Quote
crazyjakeup Posted June 5, 2007 Posted June 5, 2007 well good thing the facts are put out because things could have gotten chaotic... Quote
mbui Posted June 5, 2007 Posted June 5, 2007 I oppose the idea of having Grand Nationals in Texas because of the statements said above. However, I'm all for the idea that Grand Nationals needs to be rotated between three cities. Indianapolis, Indiana (Lucas Oil Stadium) St. Louis, Missouri (Edwards Jones Dome) Atlanta, Georgia (Georgia Dome) Quote
whitewing09 Posted June 5, 2007 Posted June 5, 2007 i think if it were closer to Texas, not necessarily in Texas. it would be cool maybe more of the good bands could go like Marcus ummm and im blank atm Quote
Danpod Posted June 5, 2007 Posted June 5, 2007 Keep in mind that many great bands don't go as often as they should because some districts simply won't let them go. Quote
mbui Posted June 6, 2007 Posted June 6, 2007 QUOTE (whitewing09 @ Jun 5 2007, 04:20 PM) i think if it were closer to Texas, not necessarily in Texas. it would be cool maybe more of the good bands could go like Marcus ummm and im blank atm Marcus had plans on attending this year's Grand National Championships, but decided not to go since their Wind Symphony was invited to perform at the Midwest Clinic & Convention in Chicago in December. I wouldn't be surprised if they decided to go next year or the years after that. Quote
bossman Posted June 6, 2007 Posted June 6, 2007 i love the idea of the rotation, it would make nationals a surprise every year, and i also think that many more band programs would start to make creative shows(cuz they'd be going to nats'). Quote
barisaxy08 Posted June 6, 2007 Posted June 6, 2007 ah...give Indiana something...because they really don't have anything else. Texas is flooded with attractions and is home to a lot of other things as well. but man...what if they built a stadium just for grand nationals or marching competitions instead of using the Lucas Oil Stadium? Imagine the way all the acoustics will sound and the way everything would be built. It would be strictly for marching band. That would be amazing! Quote
andrhs Posted June 6, 2007 Author Posted June 6, 2007 ahhh,,,yes The BOA Super Mega Acoustics Dome.... that would be so badass seats 300,000 Quote
crazyjakeup Posted June 6, 2007 Posted June 6, 2007 it just sucks cuz texas is so rich in great bands that could totaly kick butt at GNs, but they dont go because its so far... im pretty sure that if they were to have it down here texas bands will own... Quote
bossman Posted June 7, 2007 Posted June 7, 2007 PASADENA!!! LMAO, wat made you say pasadena of all the places in Texas? Quote
barisaxy08 Posted June 7, 2007 Posted June 7, 2007 i think it should be held in austin...the state capital of course...or some random city like Refugio, Texas or Limestone, Texas Quote
crazyjakeup Posted June 7, 2007 Posted June 7, 2007 how about three rivers??? i think jake would like that... Quote

I've actually been planning a trip to Pasadena for August 9th-11th because the dates for DCI World Championships and 3 of the premiere dates for Eric Whitacre's "Paradise Lost: Shadows and Wings" opera all fall within these 3 days.....and they're both in Pasadena. I'm about 70% set on going for the opera and 40% on going for both the opera and DCI...but finances and combined interest of the rest of my group is lacking. We'll see... ....I just thought it was interesting . Quote
