Danpod Posted July 1, 2007 Posted July 1, 2007 A couple of quick thoughts: The Cavaliers swept GE Visual, Visual Ensemble, and Percussion. The Blue Devils swept GE Music, Visual Performance, and Music Ensemble. The Bluecoats swept Colorguard. The Blue Devils colorguard, for the first time in as long as I can remember, is a little bit of a liability for the corps. Their work is very hard and very exposed. I believe that this was the guard's first show in full uniform so maybe that contributed to their third place finish in the Colorguard caption. Although The Cavaliers won the Brass Caption, the top three corps in that caption were separated by .3 points. Do the math. It was that close. The Bluecoats are lacking a little bit in the Visual department, both in content and performance. Don't get me wrong, it looks very cool but keep in mind that in comparison, The Cavaliers are flying around the field (when they're not playing) and the Blue Devils are just ridiculously clean. So you are probably asking yourselves: How did the Blue Devils win???? (By the way, I picked these guys, along with Phantom Regiment, to win the World Title). Well, it happened for a few reasons. The Blue Devils had the highest margins of victory in two subcaptions. They won GE Music by .4 and Visual Performance by .6 points. It doesn't seem like a lot but when all of the other subcaptions were so close, the Blue Devils dominated in GE Music and Visual Performance. Also, here's the main caption break down: Music - The Cavaliers by .05 Visual - The Cavaliers and Blue Devils tied. General Effect - The Blue Devils by .3 The Low Down: The Cavaliers are not usually as dirty as they are this year, at this point in the season. There are some sets that are very fuzzy. The fact that the Blue Devils were able to tie with The Cavaliers in the Visual Caption is good news for them because The Cavaliers always own this caption. In terms of the total package, the Blue Devils have arguably the best five minutes in drum corps this year. However, their last half of the show lacks some musical and visual intrigue. Only time will tell if the cleanliness of the corps can carry them through the rest of the season. Quote
