TRtrumpet Posted July 3, 2007 Posted July 3, 2007 How long do you use a reed before you should get a new one? I play alto sax. Quote
barisaxy08 Posted July 3, 2007 Posted July 3, 2007 if you alternate between the reeds you have then in collection they will last longer... i am a cheapy cheapskate person when it comes to reeds...so i'll wait til the reed darkens. that usually happens in about...a month or so. haha. Quote
TRtrumpet Posted July 3, 2007 Author Posted July 3, 2007 Haha, ok I change like every week, lol. Some reeds in my new box sound ugly though. Like airy and hard. Quote
crazyjakeup Posted July 3, 2007 Posted July 3, 2007 idk who is... but every time i go to the music store they have tons of those reeds... Quote
TRtrumpet Posted July 3, 2007 Author Posted July 3, 2007 Yeah... those are the crappy ones. Their cheap though. Our band director gives the bad players those. Lol. I noticed that. Quote
TRtrumpet Posted July 3, 2007 Author Posted July 3, 2007 LMAO. Dude I was just thinking that when I looked at it just now. Quote
borchnork Posted July 3, 2007 Posted July 3, 2007 I know a clarinet who used the same reed from July until December, every contest/football game and concert... let's just say that it wasn't really pleasant sounding by the time mid August hit. Quote

borchnork Posted July 3, 2007 Posted July 3, 2007 yes... they need all the help... well she needs all the help she can get. Our director finally bought a new reed for her at our first concert cus it sounded... less than bearable by then. Quote
barisaxy08 Posted July 3, 2007 Posted July 3, 2007 i would kinda mad if someone refused to change out reeds...especially when it comes to tuning. Quote
borchnork Posted July 3, 2007 Posted July 3, 2007 ehh, i didn't really care. I was used hearing it by then. which is sad. Quote
TRtrumpet Posted July 3, 2007 Author Posted July 3, 2007 That's pretty much all our 3rd/4th clarinets. I unfourtanetly sit by them, and I have to look at thier black reeds... Quote
sax5warrior Posted July 4, 2007 Posted July 4, 2007 2-3 is average for a good reed for a less than average reed, then its 1-2 weeks Quote

Nancy08 Posted July 8, 2007 Posted July 8, 2007 I use reeds longer than I probably should...especially on the sax. I'm used to my double reeds lasting horribly long so I try to make my sax reeds do the same. Basically I only change when i crack the reed. But on bassoon I try to get new reeds every couple of months. I have 6 that work right now. Quote
borchnork Posted July 8, 2007 Posted July 8, 2007 I remember the first week of school one of our bassoon players had this disgusting sounding reed.. Her excuse as to why she didn't have any better ones: "My sister ate all my reeds" Quote
