I'm planning on staying the whole weekend for Texas Bandmaster's Convention (basically TMEA except just for band stuff)....if I can find a friend/contact who's willing to let me crash on their floor. I'll worry about that when I get there though. 'Skipping the morning show so I can hit the exhibit hall (aka; band nerd candy store) at the convention center and buy some CDs, maybe look for a gig bag for my Euphonium, then go back to the Alamodome for finals.

And I'll be back again on Wednesday for the Choir Director's Convention to watch my cousin perform in some kind of all-state choir. I'd stay through Monday and Tuesday into Wednesday but I gotta work on Tuesday though, kinda sucks.

As some of you may know, there is a conspiracy theory about the winner of DCI San Antonio. So far, it's been right since 2001 and hopefully it does fail. Here it is:

On years that end in an even number (2002, 2004, 2006), the corps that wins DCI SA wins the World Championship.

2002 - Cavaliers won San Antonio and World Championship

2004 - Cavaliers won San Antonio and World Championship

2006 - Cavaliers won San Antonio and World Championship

On years that end in an odd number (2001, 2003, 2005), the corps that wins DCI SA doesn't win the World Championship and the second place corps wins.

2001 - Blue Devils won San Antonio but Cavaliers won World Championship

2003 - Cavaliers won San Antonio but Blue Devils won World Championship

2005 - Cavaliers won San Antonio but Cadets won World Championship

So it might be safe to say that on July 21st, root for your favorite corps to get second place.

Blue Devils are going to win tonight with the Cavaliers right behind them. :P

Lol, my money is on something like the other night; BD first, Cadets second. Of course, then the judges will later realize that the Cadet's music is brutal, and will then follow the conspiracy theory.

Here are a few thoughts from last night's show:

I had the Blue Devils winning. I don't think they can be stopped. Their feet are superior. Individually, their marching and movement around the field is nearly impeccable. Check out their visual scores. They swept Visual Ensemble and Performance. They are the most consistent corps in DCI and in a year where everyone and their mother has a fantastic show, consistency will triumph.

The Cavaliers have an entertaining show. I'm all about showmanship and believe me, they really lay it on throughout the show. With that being said, the drumline needs to quit hopping up and down during standstill phrases. Everytime they did, the ensemble would tear, including a really bad tear during the last few chords of the show.

The Cadets, musically, are extremely strong in all aspects. However, they are being outperformed visually, especially in the colorguard caption. For the first time in years, The Cadets guard is holding them back. 5th place in colorguard. It must improve or they risk continuing to drop.

Congratulations to Carolina Crown for breaking into the top five for the first time in the history of the corps. The crowd ate this show up. If they want to catch the Bluecoats, they'll have to improve on Music. That's hard to believe because their hornline sounds SO **** GOOD!!!!!!

The Alamodome was in shock with Phantom's placement. I was too. After some sleep, I'm not so shocked anymore. Their show has a weird flow to it. It's hard to put my finger on exactly what's holding them back. 8th place in Visual Performance. Body carriage is an issue with them.

Everyone was surprised at the arrival of The Academy. They wowed audiences with their fantastic hornline performance last year and they have done the same this year. Their sopranos are not afraid to run around AND double tongue AND play in ridiculously high registers. Bravo!

That's what I have for now. Feel free to ask questions =)

Though I'm no expert in reviewing drum corps shows, I thought I'd share some of my own thoughts on what I saw.

SCV is one of my favorites, so anytime I get to see them it makes me happy. And their show gives me extra reason to be happy, because... it just make me happy. I can't really find a way to explain it, but I was so excited that I even did the "Eureka!" yell (and normally yelling is not my thing). Plus the cymbal line's visuals amused me.

Though it meant Phantom Regiment got 6th place, I was glad to see Carolina Crown in the top 5. Their show was entertaining and well-executed, especially in the last movement with the guard "race."

Since I found out Phantom Regiment's show included Firebird, I was really looking forward to seeing it, and I was not disappointed. Hearing that finale melody explode from that powerful brass line was mind-blowing.

The first thing I thought when I saw the Bluecoats' new unis was "Ooooooooooooh... they got a makeover!" Once I got over the shock, I fully enjoyed their show and the way they played out the criminal theme. And the silent drill was cool, too. ^_^

The Cadets... ehh. The narration seemed a bit much to me, and most of the time I couldn't even understand it. At least it didn't have tons of overstimulation like last year's show.

The Cavaliers are also one of my favorites, and the upbeat mood of the show makes me extra happy. It's full of little touches that make it fun, like the brass line's fall-down wave, or the choreography in the "Pressure" movement.

As much as I would've likes to see the Cavies win, I can understand why Blue Devils took first place: they're a good corps and they had a good show. The whole thing is very intense and it kept my attention very well. Also, their drumline is rather bad@$$.

im kind of happy that the Blue Devils won. To me it seemed like their show was the hardest to put together and yet the marched it more flawlessly than anyone else did.

I loved the cadets show...although the theme is kinda played out. It reminds me of "because we are" in so many ways but the arrangement of "Blue Shades" was AMAZING to me.

the academy did pretty good for their first time in Division I. They are loud.

I personally like the boston crusaders show...i just wish they had more talent in their corp so that they could score a lot higher.

Cavies...of course they can march and play but I'm just not too sure about the theme of their show this year. I mean wit the cavies you are always like "OH ****!...how did they do that?!?!" but not it's like "yeah...that was cute". I wasn't just blown away. Still love them though.

oh yeah...bluecoats...loved the show theme. Sexy solo colorguard girl stripping in the show...YES! what every show needs a little of.

i missed the carolina crown show too...i was with a group of girls that were stalking the Cavies... <_<

but overall i enjoyed myself. Can't wait to see how World will turn out.

can someone please tell me what the crossmen did with those black capes after the preshow?

i saw it on youtube this morning but DCI "copyright'd" it and took it down. lol

They went to the back sidelines and both end zones to remove them and grab their instruments.

At DCI SA, Bones was in the stands behind the corps during the pre-show doing all the same motions as the guy that was playing Bones on the field.
