Most Use Front Ensemble Grip

What is the most use grip for Front Ensemble?

I'm not an instructor, but I do remember that my high school pit used both: Burton on vibes and Stevens on marimba.

That nice. I am currently a Caption Head/Instructor for Front Ensemble and with all the groups i teach; we only use steven grip they can use burton grip if they feel comfortable.

We use both. Vibes use Burton, and Marimbas use Steven's.

 

Vibes is easier for people with smaller hands, but I've never been able to completely grasp the idea of the fulcrum and stroke. I also play snare (traditional grip) so my left hand is MUCH more used to a wrist rotation, so this makes Steven's a million times easier for me.

Same here. We all used to use Stevens, but we got a new perc director and he had the vibes switch to burton. We hated it until we learned it and got used to it and realized it's actually not that bad and, in some ways, burton is better. I still prefer Stevens, however. So, I would have to say Stevens is more commonly used.
